While you can enjoy the usual park activities, such as picnicking, strolling, and just basking in the Midwestern airs, here are certain specific activities that you can enjoy at Burdette Park:

Go camping

The park offers excellent camping facilities. You can pitch a tent, rent an RV, or check into one of the fully furnished, fancy chalets. Large groups may even rent one of the on-site party houses that can accommodate 25 to 250 people – book one that suits your needs. For those of you opting for RV-style camping, there’s a designated area towards the west side of the park, complete with electric and sewer connections. Although, these are limited. Pitching a tent is also possible in a designated, wooded area. You can check the park’s official website for rates and other details.

Enjoy a game or two

The park has four tennis courts, a basketball and volleyball court each, and a softball field, which the guests are free to make use of. There’s also a playground, equipped with swings and other fun things that smaller children can enjoy. For those of you who enjoy golf, the park has a miniature golf course as well. Remember that all these facilities can be used free of cost. However, no reservations are entertained so it’s entirely first-come-first-serve.

Have fun fishing

While here, you can enjoy a great time bass fishing. Just remember to carry along your fishing gear and other essentials. This lake is open for fishing year-round. However, Indiana state fishing laws apply and you’ll need to have a fishing license.

Go on a hike

Burdette Park’s Burdette Park Discovery Trail is about 5 kilometres (3 miles) long and dotted with many pretty sights of Southwestern Indiana’s lush foliage that you can admire along the way. The walkways are well-paved and equipped with proper signs. If not strolling or running, you can even enjoy cycling down the route.

Splash around

Burdette Park Aquatic Center is another fantastic spot for kids to have a whale of a time. The center features an Olympic-sized swimming pool along with several other smaller splash and spray pools. Just remember to carry along your swimwear!

While there’s no eatery on site, here are some that you’ll find nearby:

Fool Moon Grill and Bar

Some five minutes’ drive away from Burdette Park is Fool Moon Grill and Bar, whipping out some of the yummiest American grub you’d find the area. Right from their fresh, loaded salad to the perfectly glazed chicken wings, everything has quite a bite to it. The Greek salad, California wrap, tomato tortellini soup, and salmon wrap are among a few great choices.

Hacienda Mexican Restaurant

This is also one you can try in the vicinity, just some 10 minutes’ from the park. While their Mexican fare is fantastic, so are their yummy cocktails – try one of the zingy margaritas. Else, they have ever-changing specials, so you can go in for one of those too.

Applebee's on Pearl

Also about five minutes’ drive, Applebee’s on Pearl offers sit-down, take-out, and to-go (order online and schedule pick-up time, head there at the scheduled time and you’ll be handed over your freshly prepared, packed meal). This place does its traditional American dishes pretty darn well so go in for one and you’ll not be disappointed.

Differing timings

Do note that while the park itself remains open year-round and observes certain timings, timings may vary for specific activities and making use of some facilities. It’s best to check their website to avoid last-minute surprises.

Internet connectivity

This is especially relevant for those of you planning to go camping here. Remember that the connectivity is unreliable and intermittent.

Plan ahead

The park is quite a popular spot, so choose the non-peak seasons to visit or plan ahead and make bookings in advance to ensure best camping sites and good fishing spots.

Navigating the trailers

Remember that the park’s trail may be a tad too tight for trailers. The path can get quite winding, so it’s best you check with the park’s authorities before-hand about an alternate route that can be taken.

Carry essentials

The experience at Burdette Park will be pleasant if you remember to carry along everything you’d need to spend a day outdoors. It’ll probably be a good idea to head there equipped with ample of water, some snacks, bug repellant, caps/hats, comfortable shoes, and other activity-specific stuff that you might require.
