Solang Valley is an outdoor adventure paradise all year round. Whether you’re visiting during the warm summer months or when the landscape is covered in snow, there’s plenty to do here.

Paragliding

One of the most thrilling experiences you can experience in Solang Valley during the summer months is paragliding. Nothing beats seeing the valley and its surrounding mountains from up above. There are two jump stations, a lower one from which your paragliding experience will end in a couple of minutes, and one at a higher level, that lasts around seven minutes. The cost of paragliding varies from 8 to 25 USD.

Trekking

You can explore the valley by car, but if you want to get a sense of its beauty and take in the breathtaking scenery, then you should consider exploring it on foot. There are lots of trails starting in Solang Valley, including Anjani Mahadev Trek, one of the easiest and shortest treks in the area, and Dashir Lake Trek, a moderate challenge that takes you to Dashir Lake, known for its picturesque landscapes and waters with medicinal properties.

Zorbing

A more recent activity, but equally fun and thrilling, zorbing is available year-round in Solang Valley. You’ll be sealed in a huge transparent ball and pushed down a hill covered in grass during the summertime and in snow during the winter months.

Winter sports

Come winter, the snow-capped mountains are the ideal scenery for skiing and snowmobile riding. During January and February, the region usually gets heavy snow, blanketing the entire valley and turning it into the perfect setting for skiing. There are slopes for all skill levels, from the easier slopes for beginners to the more challenging ones on Mt. Phatru, where professional and advanced skiers come to practice their skills. If you’re not into skiing, we recommend trying a snowmobile ride. An instructor will teach you how to operate the vehicle and then you can take it for a short ride on your own.

Best time to visit

Solang Valley is a year-round attraction, but the best times to visit vary according to your interests as the activities available here are seasonal in nature. If you’re a winter sports aficionado, visit Solang Valley during December and January, but expect heavy snowfall and a drop in temperatures. If you’d rather enjoy some warm days in the valley, April, May, June and September are the best months to visit. If you don’t like cold weather, avoid visiting between October and March. It’s best to avoid the monsoon season, between July and August, as well.

Clothing essentials

The location of Solang Valley makes it susceptible to sudden weather changes. So, travelers should always come prepared. The temperatures here can drop in a matter of minutes and the weather can swiftly go from sunny and warm to rainy and cold. Thunderstorms and snowfalls are frequent here, so make sure you bring a waterproof and windproof jacket, even if you’re visiting in the summertime.

If you are considering flying into the area, you should know that the nearest airport is Kullu-Manali Airport in Bhuntar, approximately 63 kilometers (39 miles) from Solang Valley.
