Dunwoody is a suburban area located north of Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. It has long been inhabited as far as the early 1830s but was only officially declared a city as recently as December 2008. The first settlers were Civil War veterans and was in fact named after Major Charles Dunwody who fought for the Confederates. Even before that, the Cherokee Indians once inhabited the present-day area of Dunwoody. The area has always been a lovely suburban neighborhood that eventually turned into a bustling urban city. Windwood Hollow Park is a recreational park in Dunwoody that’s perfect for families to get together. You can have a picnic at the covered picnic pavilion with picnic benches or out in the open meadows with your good old blankets. There’s also a playground perfect for the young ones and tennis courts for you to practice your forehand and backhand. There’s even a nature trail for you to explore and take in all of the scenery.

2. Shop 'til you drop at Perimeter Mall
Perimeter Mall is a top-end shopping center in Dunwoody, Georgia. Built in 1971, it’s the second-largest mall in the state of Georgia. Its interiors are unique because of the open-air design, with shops and restaurants connected by small gardens and pathways. There are 150 stores in Perimeter Mall, including top brands like Apple, Disney, and Pandora. 3. Visit the preserved and historic Donaldson-Bannister Farm
Learn a bit about Dunwoody’s famous past residents by visiting Donaldson-Bannister Farm. It has been around since 1870 and had a ton of different owners through the years. The first owner was William James Donaldson, who was a soldier during the Civil War. Later on, Lois Bannister took ownership and had it redesigned into a more colonial-looking home. The house is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. There’s also a vast garden perfect for taking a stroll. Both the house and the gardens are available for event rentals.

4. Take a stroll through Vernon Oaks Park
Another lovely and quiet park to visit in Dunwoody is Vernon Oaks Park, one of the hidden gems of the city. On a sunny day, it’s ideal to take a stroll through the park to admire its greenery. Also located within the area is an original spring house built by the early settlers in the region. It’s a nice place to sit and relax, perhaps with a good book.

5. Learn about the environment at Dunwoody Nature Center
Take your kids to Dunwoody Nature Center, a great place for them to learn more about the environment. Another lovely park in the neighborhood of Dunwoody is Georgetown Park. Similar to other parks in the area, Georgetown Park is a great place to bring your kids because of its playground. There are slides, swings, and monkey bars for them to enjoy. The unique facility in Georgetown, however, is Bocce Courts, which is not common since the sport is not so familiar. But if you happen to know how to play, then Georgetown Park has you covered!

11. Visit the lovely Cheek-Spruill House
Dubbed as the “heart of Dunwoody,” this lovely farmhouse has been under the care of Dunwoody Preservation Trust. It was built in 1906 and has been preserved over the years. Eventually, it was registered in the National Registry of Historic Places in 2000. The house has become a traditional setting for some of the city’s events, including Fourth of July and Light Up Dunwoody in time for the Christmas holidays.

Stage Door Players began as a small community initiative in 1974 and eventually blossomed into a fully active theater at present. 14. Go on a thrilling outdoor adventure at Treetop Quest Dunwoody

Treetop Quest Dunwoody is a unique park because of its nature—it’s an obstacle course located at Brook Run Park. The idea is for everyone to have fun and at the same time get challenged physically and mentally through the obstacle course. There are four levels plus a Chick Pea Course for the little ones. Levels 1 to 3 are good for children aged 7 and above, while level 4, the most challenging, is for 12-year-olds and above. Expect zip lines and lots of workouts, so remember to be physically prepared for the fun!
