Located in the western half of the Mountain Province of the Philippines, Sagada remained mostly untouched by Spanish influences until late in the 19th century. You can tell the indigenous culture has a stronger presence here than in some surrounding provinces, which makes Sagada an excellent place to explore. Perhaps one of the most intriguing things you’ll see in Sagada are the famous hanging coffins - and yes, there are really bodies in them! The use of these hanging coffins is a tradition found in several Eastern countries, and not just anyone is allowed this type of “burial”; among the qualifications, you have to be married and have had grandchildren. You’ll also find many things to do and other exciting places to explore, including waterfalls and caves (spelunking, anyone?) and participating in traditional celebrations with the locals. Read on for more information on the top places to stay in Sagada, Philippines.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. Sumaguing Cave Sumaguing Cave

If you're an adventure lover, take an 11-minute drive to Sumaguing Cave during your stay. The vast underground expanse has many exquisite rock formations. There's also an underground river with cool water. According to my guide, you need to be quiet inside the cave, as Sagada is a very spiritual place. He told me that everywhere we go, even in the cave, the spirits of their ancestors watch and rest, and that we must show them respect.

Do note that there are some pinhole entryways in the cave!
