1. Museu Theo Brandao de Antropologia e Folclore
Established on August 20, 1975, the Théo Brandão Museum was in one of the houses in the Tamandaré Campus in Pontal de Barra. It was named after folklorist Théo Brandão who donated his art collection to the Federal University of Alagoas. It was later on moved to its current location in the Palacete dos Machados along the Avenida da Paz. Aside from the installations, they have an auditorium, a craft shop and a cafe.

2. Palacio Floriano Peixoto Museum
Another museum in Maceió center is the Palacio Floriano Peixoto Museum, which used to serve as the old Government Palace. Its elegant furniture, silverware, and overall design go as far back as the 19th century.

3. Museu da Imagem e do Som de Alagoas (Museum of Image and Sound of Alagoas)
The Museum of Image and Sound of Alagoas was designed by Bráulio Leite Júnior, a theater artist back in September 3, 1981. Its collection is composed of photographs, vinyl discs, VHS tapes, K7 tapes, Super 8 movies, video cassettes, negatives and slides and much more.

4. Catedral Metropolitana de Maceio (Metropolitan Cathedral of Maceió)
Being one of the biggest structures in the city, the Maceió Metropolitan Cathedral is definitely something you won’t want to miss. Its grand spiral staircase and its twin bell towers add to the splendor of its pristine white façade. On the other hand, its interior is decorated with stained-glass windows and frescoes of various saints. The cathedral also overlooks the Dom Pedro II Plaza, where you can take a stroll in the garden and buy a few snacks during your visit.

5. Lagoa Do Roteiro (Roteiro Lake)
The Lake of Roteiro, compared to the nearby Gunga Beach provides a more serene and unspoiled paradise for guests. It could be accessible by land through a dirt road from Vila da Palatéia and by water by taking a boat at Gunga Beach. Make sure to drop by the sandbar while you’re at it.

Gunga Beach is filled with thousands of coconut trees and is positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and Roteiro Lake, creating its very unique combination of green and turquoise waters. To get to the beach, guests may drive through a private land or take a boat from Barra de São Miguel. Aside from swimming and sunbathing, locals also offer boats and kayak rentals.

8. Praia de Sao Miguel dos Milagres (Beach of São Miguel dos Milagres)
In an untouched area north of Maceió lies the São Miguel dos Milagres beach. The warm waters are shallow, which allows for an easy view of the reefs and cool, ankle-deep walks by the shore. You could also opt to explore the villages by bike, get to know its people and the crafts they come up with.

9. Praia do Carro Quebrado (Beach of Carro Quebrado)
From São Miguel dos Milagres, go south to Praia do Carro Quebrado for the ultimate city escape. Having no establishments along the shore, it is very quiet and private, especially on weekdays. It is quite difficult to get to, as its English translation “Broken Car” suggests because people would have to drive on buggies through sand. Its emerald waters will definitely be worth it though.
