As Weifang is known as the World Capital of Kites, the Weifang Kite Museum is the best place to visit regarding kites, kite art, kite models and kite techniques. Here you can marvel at 2,000 kites from around the world, positioned in 12 gallery rooms. Passing through the exhibitions you will be able to find out everything you always needed to know about kite making, different styles and techniques, and also you will have the opportunity to figure out what makes Weifang style kites distinct from other types of Chinese kites. It’s open all year round 8am–6pm in spring and summer; 8am–5:30pm in autumn and winter.

2. Discover the Shihu Gardens and the Qing Dynasty architecture

This was the private garden of Ding Shanbao, a rich landlord of Weifang during Qing Dynasty (1616 AD to 1911 AD). The celebration reaches peak point in the middle of April, every year. Kites fill up the skies and representatives from all over the world come and join the festivities and performances during the festival. 5. Try JiYa Hele noodles and the famous Longsheng Pastry

Like every Chinese city that respects itself, Weifang has its own notorious specialities. Therefore, before you leave the town you should make sure that you try the notorious JiYa Hele noodles (chicken and duck noodles) or Huoshao stuffed with meat. To make this dish, the noodles are boiled before having the chicken and duck soup added. Many also like to add sliced meatballs, salted vegetables, and spicy oil to the soup. Finish your meal with the famous Longsheng Pastry!

With a budhist calming energy, this spot will be the scenery of your most popular travel snapshots. You can take the bus from Weifang Long Distance Bus Station to Linqu, where you can transfer to a direct bus to Old Dragon Lake. The bus from Weifang to Linqu operates from 7:00am to 5:00pm and a bus leaves for Linqu every 10 minutes.

7. Meet paleontologists and discover cool dinosaur fossils in nearby Zhucheng Dinosaur Museum

A bit further away from Weifang, in Zhucheng, there is a museum with a wide array of dinosaur fossils. Zchcheng has been an important city for dinosaur discoveries since the 1960s, but in 2008 paleontologists discovered 7,800 dinosaur fossils in the area. This is a unique chance to take a glance of the rich dinosaur history of China. The museum is open everyday from 8.30am-6.30pm and as an English speaker you won’t have any difficulty getting around.

8. Hike at Mount Yi and breathe in nature and culture
