The Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa, in other words, the highly sacred temple of Lord Buddha's tooth relic, is one of the most respected temples among Buddhist followers around the world. One of the living tooth relics of Lord Buddha is kept inside this magnificent temple, and millions of Buddhist devotees come to visit throughout the year. A very special cultural event takes place at this venue during the month of September, where the tooth relic is taken out and shown to the general public. A giant tusked elephant takes part in that event, accompanied by hundreds of drummers and dancers.
