Located in the area of Palazzo Gabrielli and the Palazzo Molin del Cuoridoro, Hotel Gabrielli is one of the oldest hotel premises of Venice, and was owned by the Gabrielli family in the 13th century. This family-run hotel has been open since 1856 and has an interesting history. In 1848, Andrea Perhofer went from Austria to Venice to work as a chef. He opened a successful restaurant in the inner courtyard of the Palazzo Gabrielli. He eventually acquired some parts of the land owned by the Gabrielli family, and started running his own hotel and extended it over the following generations. Till today, the buildings have grown to a rounded complex structure with more than a hundred rooms, the inner courtyards, the garden and the roof terrace. Read on to find out what makes this hotel so special nowadays.

The perfect location

Located in a Venetian Palazzo on the waterfront, Hotel Gabrielli is close to the Doge’s Palace, the Arsenal and the Biennale Exhibition Area. Many excellent cafes and restaurants are right at your doorstep. Hotel Gabrielli is only a few minutes walk from the main attractions of Venice; however, is situated off the tourist track.

The gorgeous view

Take a lift to the sixth floor of Hotel Gabrielli and you will be astonished by the splendid view of Venice from its roof terrace. This is a perfect romantic spot for a cup of espresso in the morning, viewing Venice by sunset or enjoying the magical lights all over the city above the water’s surface. Imagine waking up with the sunrise and having the lagoon view just from your window.

The luxurious dining room and bar

Breakfast buffet with excellent coffee is held between around 8 AM and 11 AM in a luxurious dining room, and is available for all guests with no extra fee. You can also enjoy the typical Venetian cuisine as well as international dishes during dinner at the Gabrielli Restaurant. There’s also an outdoor cafe area with a stunning view of the waterfront. The bar, located next to the restaurant, also offers an ideal place for a glass of Italian wine served in an enchanting atmosphere.

The Venetian interior design

One of the things I love most about Hotel Gabrielli is its impressive Venetian interior design, with hand-made Murano glass chandeliers and some bathrooms decorated with marble.

Top rated modern facilities

With 103 rooms in total, Hotel Gabrielli is equipped with the latest facilities including air-conditioning, flat-screen television and a safe. There’s also an in-room telephone and free, high speed Wi-Fi connection throughout the building, including the rooms, and even the cafe outside.

Gabrielli also has a small garden on the first floor. If you would like to stay away from the hectic crowds of Venice’s center for a while, come here to read a book and relax.

A source of inspiration

The hotel has been a remarkable source of inspiration for many artists coming from all over Europe including the Italian caricaturist Giuseppe Novello, the French painter André Hambourg and the German author Cornelia Funke with her famous children’s book ‘The Thief Lord’. This was also where the Korean artist Nam June Paik and the Japanese architect Tadao Ando experienced their stay whilst in Venice. Not only painters and authors love the hotel, but also the well-known film director Wim Wenders – a major figure in New German Cinema. Enjoy the wonderful view over the Venetian lagoon to get inspired for your next piece of artwork here!
