You've ridden our chairlifts, but what about the Breck Flyer Zipline?

Posted by Breckenridge Ski Resort on Saturday, June 25, 2016

This is a must-do. While it’s true your first step off that first platform will test your ability to control your bladder, once you do it you’ll never want to stop. You literally experience what it is to fly. This is a two-stage zip line with two spans: 120 meters (392 feet) and 333 meters (1,095 feet).

You’ll soar with the eagles, over 15 meters (50 feet) in the air. Single rides cost 39 USD. That’s less than a night out on the town! You simply must add this to your travel itinerary.

4. Plan a spa day

Spa Day

The Rejuvenation Mini-Spa is a well-known treatment center that will whisk all your cares away. Treatment options range from customized Rejuvenation Massages, to Restorative Body Polish Wraps, to signature Alpine Rescue Facials. The setting here is heavenly, to put it mildly. Bask in a hot tub of your choosing, under quietly soft lights. After a day out on the slopes and before that glass of Chenin-blanc downtown, a stopover at the Rejuvenation Mini-spa is an absolute must.

With sad tales of gold miners that didn’t make it out alive, the Haunted Tour of Breckenridge is the most popular ghost tour. It’s a walking tour that takes you through historic downtown. There’s some very rich history in Breckenridge, thanks to those wild western settlers.

Designed to be both kid and adult friendly, colorful storytelling is at the heart of this evening affair. It’s definitely worth checking out on one of your evenings in town. The stories will definitely stay with you, adding to your mountaintop memories.

7. Go for a hot air balloon ride

After you’ve sailed down a zip line, crossed river banks on a saddle, there’s only one thing left to do - hop in a hot air balloon. There are 54 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado. During a Colorado Hot Air Baloon Ride, you’ll see 36 of those peaks. Gliding across Colorado’s vast rolling hills, you’ll be able to breathe in 360-degree panoramic mountain views.

Flights last about an hour, but all the special touches along the way will really put a pep in your step. Hot beverages and snacks are provided upon arrival. Post flight, you’ll take place in a traditional ballooning ceremony complete with champagne and mimosas.

The platinum package comes in at 275 USD per person. If you’ve got the wiggle room in your budget, you’re going to want to wiggle onto that hot air balloon. If not now, when?

8. Hike Peak 9

Posted by Casey Urschel on Thursday, 11 August 2016

Peak 9 is the second highest numbered mountain in the linear Tenmile Range. This is a nice summer activity and a great test of your ability to acclimate to the high altitudes. Peak 9 is a fairly gentle peak, easy to climb with a Class 2 hiking route. Once you reach the summit, take a load off and soak up those Tenmile, Front, and Gore ranges. The best way to access Peak 9 is from the Breckenridge Ski Area. Don’t forget to pack your water and snacks!

9. Hike McCullough Gulch

McGullough Gulch is bedazzled by waterfalls and pranced upon by the likes of deer, moose, and porcupine. Although Bullwinkle is super cute, his real-life compadres are mean. Make sure you only wave to them from a distance. But, all in all, this is a great trail for the entire family to hike.

You’ll want to get an early start to increase your chances of avoiding any afternoon rain showers. Just as soon as you arrive, you’ll be able to hear those rushing waterfalls. Let the journey begin!

I admit I’m feeling a bit sad as I close out this article. Breckenridge is such a special town. Residents and travelers alike climb mountains every day and savor their treasured times together down in the local pubs.

It’s a clean, well-kept town that’s just smalltown-USA enough to invite you back for more. I hope you’ll make it there someday. Perhaps we’ll meet up in the stars.
