27. Meet the bats of Yolo Causeway
What would you feel if you saw more than 250 bats all flying together at the same time? The causeway is a 3-mile (4.8 km) duct that connects Sacramento and Davis on the I-80. The causeway is elevated because underneath it lies the largest wetland restoration project in the United States. Visiting this place at dusk will treat you to the mesmerizing and somewhat scary sight of thousands of Mexican free-tail bats as they leave for the valley to eat crop pests and insects.
