1. Carpenter's Park


Carpenter’s Park, located on the shores of Blackwater River, has something in store for everyone. The fun place boasts a well-equipped playground and a newly added splash pad for kids, a sizable pavilion, picnic spots, and even a campervan parking lot. A stream flows on site and features a boat launch and an opportunity to enjoy boating, kayaking, and fishing. You can also rent paddleboards on the grounds and play in the water. Note that the splash pad is only open from 10 am to 7 pm, unlike other amenities on site.

See photographs and items from the city’s past, including the Civil War period, in this museum located in the historic Bagdad Village. The institution, owned and managed by the Bagdad Village Preservation Association, sits in a late 19th-century structure that belonged to New Providence Missionary Baptist Church. The area, set between Pond Creek and Blackwater River, used to be a mill that employed almost everyone in the location until it shut down in 1939 due to lack of resources. 7. The Spot Tavern


The Spot Tavern is one of the trendiest bars in the city, established in 2013. Aside from the curated cold beers they offer, there are add-ons to keep you coming back for more. 9. Coldwater Creek Paddling Trail

Guests can also venture down Coldwater Creek at their own pace on the Coldwater Creek Paddling Trail and venture through 20 miles (32 kilometers) of untouched wildlife. The current typically runs 3 mph (4.8 kilometers) and there are a few mini-rapids along the creek. Another option for nature lovers is Blackwater River State Park. Paddlers can journey down the 31-mile (50 kilometer) trail to experience scenic views of plants and wildlife. The park does not offer canoe or kayak rentals and encourages guests to bring their own equipment or rent from an outfitter. The naturally clear waters make this a favorite spot for swimming, fishing, tubing, and other activities. Winding natural trails also invite guests to explore the 60 acres (24.2 hectares) of pristine nature. 11. Juniper Creek Paddling

Great for beginners, this 6-mile (9.6 kilometers) trail runs at speeds of 3 mph (4.8 kilometers). The scenic trail provides minimal obstacles and plenty of sandbars for picnicking. Populated with pine, juniper, and cypresses, guests may spot deer, fish, turtles, otter, bobcats, and bears, though the latter are rare. The easiest launch site is Red Rock Road Bridge, which provides a large bank. Guests are encouraged to bring their own equipment since no known outfitters service Juniper Creek. Camping is also allowed.

12. Main Street Milton

13. Blackwater Heritage State Trail

Winding through downtown Milton and connecting to the U.S. Navy’s Military Heritage Trail is the 8.1 mile long (13.1 kilometers) Blackwater Heritage State Trail. Perfect for biking, walking, running, and skating, this paved road will take guests past the historic town of Milton and out to the countryside. Guests can also travel along the unpaved equestrian trails. About one mile (1.6 kilometer) from the start of the trail is the visitor center, which provides plenty of picnic tables, restrooms, parking, and playgrounds for guests to enjoy. 14. Arcadia Mill Archaeological Site

Guests are welcome to experience 200 years of Florida history at the expansive, 19th century Arcadia Mill Archaeological Site. From 1817 to 1855, this 37-acre (5 hectare) site was once a water-powered industrial complex with a variety of mills, factories, and a thriving village. The site saw one of the first railroads in Florida and a few small-scale Civil War battles. Since the 1960s, the site has been actively preserved in order to showcase the history of the site. Throughout the complex, guests can view original artifacts in the Arcadia Exhibit and visit the Arcadia Homestead (Simpson House) to get a glimpse of Florida life during the 1800s. Guests can also experience a working replica of a water-powered mill from the Discovery Pavilion. An accessible boardwalk winds guests through one mile (1.6 kilometers) of nature trails and over Pond Creek. A shaded picnic area is also provided. Admission is free for the Visitor Center and Museum and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Guided tours are provided for an additional cost, but must be scheduled in advance. The grounds are open all year during daylight hours.

15. West Florida Railroad Museum

The West Florida Railroad Museum explores the history behind the introduction of one of the first Florida railways, which began in 1881. The current museum sits on the site of the former freight and passenger depot from the early 1900s. Guests can view multiple train cars preserved with historical artifacts, such as the L&N Dining Car, Globe Coffee House, and Pullman sleeper car. Guests can purchase souvenirs and railroad history books from the gift shop, which is in the restored waiting rooms original to the depot. The site is open from 10 am to 3 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Guided tours are also offered by appointment. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
