Woodland, California, is approximately 15 miles (24 kilometers) northwest of the capitol city of California, known as Sacramento. Because a railroad line was added to the city, as well as the recent addition of Interstate 5 and its close proximity to Sacramento, Woodland has been declared a thriving and upcoming city. 1. Woodland Opera House
The Woodland Opera House is a California Historical Landmark as well as a California State Historic Park. It was originally built in 1885 but had to be rebuilt, due to a fire that destroyed part of it. Luckily, some of the intact bricks and foundation were restored on the original site. Many events, mostly live theatre, are held here, year round. The theatre is intimate and comfortable, according to the happy patrons and most recently, the Opera House featured a theater production of Beauty and the Beast. Many people enjoyed it and plan to come back to see other live shows. I used to love such shows growing up and seeing the plays featured here, brings back memories.

2. The Downtown Woodland Historic District
This is also a California Historical Landmark and is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. This is where the Woodland Opera House is, as well as the Hotel Woodland, the Porter Building, the Woodland Public Library and the Jackson Building.
There are a wide variety of businesses and shops in this area, as well as art galleries and plenty of places to eat, including pubs, sushi and Thai restaurants. This is an up and coming community as new buildings and houses are being built here. It is a happening place, so I can understand people wanting to live here. Last, but not least, just walking around here, is half the fun.

3. Hotel Woodland
This historic hotel, in downtown Woodland, was designated as a National Historic Landmark and also voted Best Caterer and Best Venue by the readers of the Daily Democrat. You will love staying here or just visiting, as you are transported back in time with warmth and serenity. The Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, including an enclosed patio, shade trees, fountain and huge ballroom, all combine to make this a place to relax and kick back while enjoying the peacefulness.
This place is so beautiful that people book their weddings and graduation parties here. There have been all kinds of events here, including the local high school prom and bridal showers.

4. Sacramento River Train
A fun train ride for all ages, this train slowly meanders through open farmland, over the Fremont Bridge and through the Yolo County Wildlife Refuge. Just be aware that it can be a 3 hour or more round trip between West Sacramento and Woodland. The train offers beautiful scenic views, so sit by the window, while you relax. There is also live entertainment for your enjoyment, or if you prefer, you can eat or enjoy drinks on the ride. As for train itself, it features three open-air cars and three enclosed air-conditioned coaches.
People like to hold events on the train. It is a nice place to do so and very kid-friendly. Most of the on-board live entertainment is geared towards kids and families. The Sacramento River Train also hosts its own events, including a wild west excursion and a beer train.
I love train rides, especially the scenic views like this train offers. It is ride worth taking.

5. Jack Slaven Park
This is a great water park for kids. Jack Slaven Park features a children’s playground and a small water park that is great to cool off on hot days. As for families, there are paved paths that extend around the park that are great for walking and biking. Last, but not least, there are picnic areas with open grass for kids to run around, while the adults relax and enjoy the natural backdrop.

6. Reiffs Gas Station Museum
This is the house of Mark Reiff, who turned his whole home into a museum, dedicated to antique car culture and 1950s nostalgia. The whole house is full of retro 1950s nostalgia, antiques, and all kinds of antique automotive culture, which makes this a must-see museum. The public is welcome to tour the museum, which is something really fun to do. It is interesting to see how gas pumps used to look, as well as various cars.
Not only that, the museum is available to rent for your next party, meeting, or special event. The museum hosts special events, too. One of these events is called Photo Days. This is a day when antique car owners are allowed to bring their cars to be photographed inside the nostalgic museum exhibits. Another fun event is the annual Street Bash Car Show, which takes place on the 2nd Saturday, in June.
