Cran-Gevrier is itself a beautiful place to visit but for those looking to explore the areas outside of town, the medieval city of Annecy is nearby. Staying outside of bigger cities has its benefits like cheaper accommodations but still provide easy access to local landmarks and tourist spots. Annecy has some great skiing and sightseeing by the lake and mountains, so come by and visit any time of the year.
