Sinj is a town located in the heart of the Dalmatian hinterland. The area is known as Cetinska Krajina, part of a group of settlements situated on a fertile karstic field through which the river Cetina passes. The town lies in between four mountains: Svilaja, Dinara, Kamešnica, and Visoka, which gives it its specific submediterranean climate, with hotter summers and colder winters. The major attraction of Sinj is the traditional tilter’s tournament of Sinj which takes place every year on the first Sunday of August to commemorate the victory over the Turkish army in 1715. The tilters dress in the traditional costumes, ride on horseback in full gallop, trying to thrust a small ring, hanging from a wire, with a lance.
