Sachsenhausen former Concentration Camp

Oranienburg

5-7 hours

The concentration camps of the Nazi era continue to appal and horrify the world. These were places of forced labour, medical abuse, torture and mass murder.

Many diverse people suffered in Sachsenhausen, from homosexuals to pacifists, priests to artists, journalists to Jews, resisters to ethnic minorities slandered as “gypsies”.

In this tour of Sachsenhausen’s former prisoner area, we will share some of their stories. We will build an image of life inside the camp, explain how this hideous episode of history escalated and address Sachsenhausen’s specific role in the Holocaust. A tour here is an emotionally challenging experience, but also extremely worthwhile.

DAY 1

DAY 1 -

I tailor the specifics of my tours to the wishes of the guests.

Either we meet at your accommodation, or at a train station in Berlin city, or at the Sachsenhausen memorial (approx 1 hour outside of Berlin).

If we travel together to the memorial from Berlin then we either use public transport or a private vehicle. I can organise transit tickets and book private vehicles (based on your preference) but please note that transit costs are not included in the tour quote.

I recommend that we tour in the former prisoner area for 2-3 hours, including briefly entering a couple of the museums. Either we travel together back to Berlin or you can remain alone at the memorial after the tour to visit its museums.

Good things are meant to be shared!
