James Blackwell Farmhouse - I highly recommend a visit to this colonial-era farmhouse, built by the Blackwell family in 1796. The wooden house was acquired by the New York City municipal government in 1823.

It once served as the residence for warden administrators overseeing medical and penal institutions on the island. Despite falling into disrepair, the farmhouse has undergone significant restoration efforts since 1973, with the latest interior renovation being completed in October 2020.

Explore the five Girl Puzzle sculptures designed by Amanda Mathews, dedicated to honoring the accomplishments of the crusading reporter Nelly Bly. In 1887, Bly exposed the mistreatment and abuse of residents at The Women's Lunatic Asylum of Blackwell Island. The exhibit was unveiled by New York Governor Kathy Hochul in December 2021.

In mid-June 2024 the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will roll out Congestion Pricing fees for private cars entering New York City below 60th Street, encompassing key areas like Times Square, Chelsea, and SoHo. This initiative, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, noise, and air pollution in the Central Business District (CBD) while generating funds for regional mass transit improvements, imposes a one-time fee of $15.00. Operating mostly from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, these rates incentivize nighttime driving by slashing fees by 75% between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
