Classic Finnish art may not be very well-known outside the country, but if art museums are your thing, head to Ateneum, located next to Helsinki central railway center. There you can immerse yourself in Finnish artists such as Hugo Simberg, who painted this suspicious old lady, as well as an ever-changing offering of visiting exhibitions.

Finns love coffee, and Helsinki offers a multitude of different spaces for enjoying a cup of coffee - or why not tea? "Cajsan Helmi", the pearl of Cajsa, is a newly renovated café dating back to the early 19th century. They offer a range of sweet and savory options for a light snack or afternoon sweets. Their tea selection is of particular note.

Visiting Helsinki in winter? Sure we have snow, and sometimes rain, but sometimes, we also have ice. Lots and lots of ice. If you're unsure on your feet, consider purchasing studded rubber sole-straps for your shoes. They're widely available in shops here, and are easy to remove when going inside.

The Cable Factory is a hub of art and culture in Ruoholahti, just outside the center of Helsinki. Accessible by metro or a brisk 20-minute walk, this 80-year-old massive factory building has been repurposed to house artists' workspaces, exhibition halls, dance schools, martial arts schools, photo studios, radio stations, and more. Entry is free, and the doors are open so visitors can freely roam the corridors to admire the art on display. One end of the building houses three museums, and the House of Dance annex is a great place to see dance performances and modern circus acts. Check their website for performance times and tickets.
