Set against the backdrop of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, Landrum came to be in the year 1880 after the railroad was extended north from Spartanburg. The area continued to grow as more and more lumber mills and corn mills were established and this growth reached a peak when a market was established for the agricultural products of the area. Landrum continues to enchant both locals and visitors alike as they dine at its quaint eateries, walk through unique antique and specialty shops or take long drives along scenic roads.

Here are the top things to do in Landrum:

1. Campbell's Covered Bridge

The only remaining covered bridge in the state of South Carolina, Campbell’s Covered Bridge was constructed in 1909 and bears a 38 foot (11.5 m) long, 12 foot (3.6 m) wide pine structure that spans Beaverdam Creek. The quaint and enchanting bridge was originally named for Lafayette Campbell, who was the owner of a nearby grist mill. He eventually allowed his property to be used for the bridge’s construction and as they say, the rest is history.

Back in the day, covered bridges were especially popular in mountainous areas as they served the function of offering extra protection for river and creek crossings through snow and ice. On top of that, covered bridges provided additional convenience by reducing travel time during various extreme weather conditions. Campbell’s Covered Bridge crosses a charming, meandering stream and offers travelers a great nature view of the state of South Carolina and the scenery that can be found in the area. The bridge is now owned by Greenville County.
