With one of the most breath-taking landscapes and the oldest medieval castle in Slovenia, Bled attracts an increasing number of tourists coming here to enjoy the Swan Lake’s charm. If you are looking for an excellent low-budget accommodation choice, Castle Hostel 1004 is a must-try. Here are some highlights of a short stay here:
Excellent location near the lake, city center and bus station
Castle Hostel 1004, Bled, is located in an excellent location, 5 minutes’ walk from the bus station, a few more minutes to Lake Bled and the city center, and close to the beautiful St. Martin Church. Prior to your arrival, the hostel staff will send an email kindly asking your arrival time with an attached instruction file on how to get from multiple points to the hostel. I found this very useful, especially as Google Maps may not work correctly in Slovenia.
Stunning panoramic view from the terrace
The best view you can get from Castle Hostel 1004 is definitely from its outdoor terrace. No longer do you have to hike all the way uphill to Bled Castle to enjoy a spectacular view of the picturesque Bled. From the balcony, you can enjoy meals while having a chat with fellow travelers, and the hostel can even organize a barbecue if you like. The locational is great for watching the sunrise and sunset, or just to breathe in some fresh air during the getaway from city life.
Decent common space and friendly atmosphere
There is a common area to hang out in. Computers and kitchen equipment are free for use. Certain food packages, spices, and coffee are also marked as free to use. Tap water is drinkable, so don’t waste your money on plastic water bottles. The receptionist is always friendly and mostly available at the common room to answer your questions if needed.
Excellent room quality
All dorm rooms, with 44 beds in total, are equipped with free Wi-Fi, lockers, reading lights, and free linens. Ask the receptionist for a free lock if you don’t have one. The hotel’s common space can be very lively and a bit loud during daytimes, but in the evenings silence is ensured for your nice sleep. Toilets and showers with automatic lights are shared, and they are cleaned daily.
Great added service and hospitality of the staff
One of the best things I experienced during my stay in Bled was the self-guided mountain bike trip. The hostel will let you borrow a bike for free and go the whole way up to Triglav National Park to see the alluring gorges and waterfall there. The receptionist will also show you the way to get there. After cycling around Bled Lake, you can also ask other guests to join a boat ride to Bled Island. To rent a small boat usually costs 12 EUR / 13.50 USD and you can split the cost between all.
Why should you visit Bled?
Though Slovenia remains a lesser-known destination in Europe, it’s an affordable and chilled-out city. You can find great sights, thrilling water sports, adventurous landscapes, and nice people, all at the same place. It is also an affordable destination. Visit Bled as soon as you can and reserve a bed at Castle Hostel 1004 for less than 10 EUR (11.3 USD) per night. All hostels in Bled sell fast in the summer months.
