Portorož is a seaside town in Slovenia that is renowned as much for its white sandy beaches as it is for its healing salt water and mud. Situated on the Adriatic coast, the town got its start as a health tourism spot, when local leaders and doctors decided to market the region for the health benefits that could be derived from its concentrated saltwater and salina mud. It soon developed into a major tourist spot in Slovenia. Portorož enjoys mild winters and warm summers, making it an ideal beach holiday destination. Plus, the beaches are very clean and there is an abundance of spas and wellness resorts complemented by world-class restaurants and a plethora of activities like cycling, sailing, swimming, sunbathing, etc. And during your time in Portorož, stay at the beachfront Grand Hotel Bernardin that also has a spa, wellness center and modern rooms with panoramic ocean views.
Another beautiful town along the Adriatic coast, Piran is very picturesque and makes for a fantastic beach holiday destination due to its amazing Mediterranean climate. Perfectly situated at the tip of the Piran peninsula, Piran attracts visitors with its warm summers and cool winters along with lovely beaches. The town has a long-standing history of salt panning that visitors can explore at a saltpan museum. There are many other interesting things to do in this beachside town, including sailing, cycling, hiking, admiring the well-preserved Gothic medieval architecture of Old Town, enjoying fresh seafood and taking in picturesque sights of the Slovenian Mediterranean. And during a vacation stay in Piran, we recommend staying at the seafront Hotel Piran that is conveniently located close to both the beach and the town square, and also has other amenities like a spa, a wellness centre, and a restaurant serving Mediterranean and Slovene cuisines.
Izola is another Adriatic coast gem that is best known as an old fishing town. It is a part of the Istrian peninsula but is often bypassed by foreign visitors in favor of the neighboring Piran and Portorož. The town has a rich history, having been founded by refugees in the 7th century. It has a long history of fishing and seafaring, but tourism was only developed in the early 1800s when thermal water was first discovered here. Visitors to Izola can expect quiet but equally beautiful beaches, a large marina and a Venetian-style town with winding streets that hide superb cafes, bars, and excellent restaurants. You can enjoy various water sports, swimming, sunbathing, sight-seeing or cultural events in Izola. When in Izola, we suggest staying at San Simon Resort for its excellent facilities like beach access, water slides on the beach, an indoor pool garden, a restaurant, bar, terrace and contemporary rooms.
