The silvery sands of Kappad Beach are pristine and serene and are perfect for sunbathing. Walk along the soft stretch of sand, or stroll along the paved boardwalk and admire the spectacular coastal views. Another favorite activity at Kappad Beach is to enjoy the view at sunset. The area is renowned for its vibrant sunset views and colorful skies.
Historic attractions
Kappad Beach houses a stone memorial that commemorates the arrival of navigator Vasco da Gama on Indian shores. The Portuguese explorer is said to have landed at Kappad Beach on May 27, 1498, and from here, established the “Spice Route” and trading ties between Europe and India. While historians now believe that Vasco da Gama may have actually landed at the nearby town of Panthalayini, the monument is still a unique attraction memorializing the local area’s past.
Another historic attraction to visit is the Temple on the Rock. Believed to be around 800 years old, this Hindu temple is perched on a rocky outcropping facing the sea and is dedicated to the goddess Devi.
Boating
One of the most popular pursuits at Kappad Beach is boating along the backwaters. With its series of flowing canals, lakes and lagoons, this unspoiled landscape is filled with picturesque scenery. When to visit
To avoid monsoons, the best time to visit Kappad Beach is from October through March. The beach is beautiful at any time of the day, but sunset is a particularly scenic time to visit.
Beach vendors
In addition to food vendors on the beach, there are several shops and stalls selling a variety of souvenirs. If you need a break from sunbathing, enjoy some shopping and peruse items like clothing, knick-knacks, and special snacks from the area.

How to get there
By bus
Kappad Beach is accessible by public bus. From the Kozhikode Municipal Bus Stand (New Stand), it is a nearly 4 mile (6.5 km) ride to the beach.
By car
To reach Kappad Beach by private car, drive along the Kozhikode-Kannur road (NH 17). Turn left at Thiruvangoor, then continue straight until you see signs for Kappad Beach. Free parking is available at the beach.
