Biwako Ohashi Bridge spans over the southern part of Lake Biwa, close to Hiei-Hira mountain range. Yanmar Marina has existed right next to this bridge for over 50 years and now a new resort hotel has opened there as well. As you can see from the photo, the hotel has only 3 floors and 14 rooms, but it’s specially targeted at guests who want to spend a luxurious holiday. Inside is the Italian restaurant “Mia Alberga” which uses local products such as vegetables from Ohmi region and local meat. You can savor a delicious meal there even if you’re not a guest of the hotel. There are plenty of ways to enjoy this new place on the shores of Lake Biwa.

Feel the blessings of Lake Biwa!

The reed is swaying in the wind, water birds are flying around and the sun is setting behind Hiei-Hira mountain range. Here you can enjoy the blessings of all natural elements: water, wind, sun, land. Lake Biwa’s surface looks different every time you take a look at it. Especially during the sunset it changes colors every second and you won’t be tired of feasting your eyes on its beauty. The boats entering the marina add up to the scenic landscape.

A relaxing holiday embraced by the warmth of the wooden interior

All 14 rooms face Lake Biwa and have large windows so that the light can freely enter inside. The floor and the balconies are made of Shiga wood which feels very pleasant and warmth already from the minute you enter the room. When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you’ll see is Lake Biwa. This is a great opportunity to wake up together with the sunrise, get rid of the everyday stress from the big city and reset your biological clock.

An extraordinary museum next to an extraordinary hotel!

There is an art museum close to the hotel that is definitely worth visiting. Just 10 minutes away on foot from the hotel along Lake Biwa’s shore you will find Sagawa Art Museum and its spacious outdoor grounds. The entire building is constructed to look like it’s floating over the lake and has special exhibitions of pottery art by the artisan dynasty Raku Kichizaemon as well as paintings by the popular Japanese painter Ikuo Hirayama. The museum is very wide inside and does not fit into the general image of museums as crowded places. Especially popular is the tea ceremony room which is unique with its combination of novelty and natural elements – it looks as if floating over the water surface! This extraordinary museum is a fantastic addition to your stay in the extraordinary hotel.

Recommended access to the hotel

If you’re using the railway network, get off at either Moriyama Station or Katata Station and take a bus to the hotel. Either approach is fine, but the bus from Katata Station provides better views. When you cross the Biwako Ohashi Bridge you’ll be able to enjoy fantastic views of Lake Biwa to your left and right.
