St. Olav’s Hotel, located in Tallinn, Estonia’s historic old town, is a charming accommodation for anyone in Europe visiting on a weekend break. St. Olav’s Hotel is the largest hotel in old town with 106 rooms spread over four floors. The interior of the hotel makes you feel as though you are living in a more modern version of the medieval Old Town, as many rooms have exposed beams and stone walls. Read on to learn why you should choose St. Olav’s Hotel as your accommodation in Tallinn.

Excellent location in the Old Town

The best part of St. Olav’s Hotel is its location in the Old Town. It is only a five minute walk from the Old Town Square where you’ll find the famous Old Town Hall and several cute shops and tasty restaurants. If you visit in the winter (anytime from late November until early January), you’ll be treated with views of the colorful Christmas market in Old Town Square – be sure to purchase a mug of mulled wine to stay warm!

Staying at St. Olav’s Hotel will put you incredibly close to all of the other amazing sights in Tallinn including the Kohtuotsa Viewing Platform, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the old city wall, Saint Catherine’s Passage, and more read more about these locations here.

The spacious rooms

With 106 rooms, numerous options are available including double rooms, suites, and junior suites with their own private sauna. I stayed in a standard double room, which was surprisingly large. It had a comfortable bed equipped with sufficient blankets. The room also has a large desk and fast, free Wi-Fi – perfect for anyone needing to catch up on work or emails. Additionally, there was a flat screen television with numerous channels and a mini refrigerator stocked with drinks available for purchase.

The bathrooms had floor heating making them very comfortable on cold winter days. The room I stayed in had a very clean bathroom with a sink, toilet, and small shower. Toiletries were limited to a squeeze bottle of soap mounted on the wall, so you might want to consider bringing your own shampoo and other bathing necessities.

The view from my room on the fourth floor was incredible. I was able to clearly see the terracotta colored rooftops and the spire of the Tallinn Town Hall building.

One thing to keep in mind is that the hotel doesn’t have elevators, so be prepared to walk up numerous stairs (four floors at most) to get to your room, or perhaps consider requesting a room on a lower floor.

The amenities

Tallinn's Christmas Market

If you are traveling with a young child, you can request a baby cot to be set up in your room. While the cot wasn’t set up in our room prior to our arrival, it was brought up shortly after we arrived and came equipped with sufficient sheets and blankets, which isn’t always the case with other hotels.

A night’s stay comes with free breakfast, which is served on the second floor of the hotel. The breakfast is a large buffet affair and there are a ton of tables in the dining room. Breakfast consists of bread, rolls, cold cut meats, sliced cheese, fruit, yogurt, cereal, milk, and a few hot dishes to choose from. During my stay, hot dishes included small hot dogs and eggs. In my opinion, the breakfast spread was a bit lackluster, but you don’t want to fill up at breakfast anyway since Tallinn boasts numerous incredible and affordable restaurants.

There are also a few lounge rooms located on the first floor of the hotel to relax, catch up with work, or chat with friends.

Enjoy a weekend stay at St. Olav’s Hotel

Tallinn is easily explored in a weekend and St. Olav’s Hotel is a perfect hotel to use as your home away from home. You’ll be comfortable in the spacious rooms and warm enough even on the coldest days. Tallinn, Estonia is an enchanting city to visit at any time of year, so start planning your trip now!
