Heading to the hill station of Ranikhet located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, in the months from March to October, allows you to experience remnants of the British Raj along with striking scenery. The town which is now managed by the Indian army is part of a cantonment and is not surprisingly one of the best-managed vacation spots in India. It has, over the years, become a popular vacation area and attracts people from every part of the country who come to the town to escape the summer heat. The town which is located over two ridges was developed extensively by the British but never became as popular as Shimla which was used as a summer capital at the time. However, the town’s name originates from an older period and is inspired by royalty. Ranikhet translates to “Queen’s meadow” or “Queen’s farm” as it was rumored that Rani Padmini once lived in the area. Aside from its royal name and multiple connections to the Indian Army, the town also has several unique temples, picturesque places to visit and a museum that beckons visitors and locals alike. So keep reading if you want to find a list of the top things to do in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand.
