Gaya Rachim

As flight bargain huntress, middle-class traveler, and discomfort seeker, I am always DTF (down to fly). I was born in Indonesia and moved to the United States with my family at the age of 1, where I established roots and now call my beloved city of Seattle home. Having graduated with a Master’s of Science in Public Policy from the United Nations University in the Netherlands, I was blessed with the opportunity of living in a prime travel spot in Western Europe during my studies. Situated within vicinities to Germany, Belgium, and with France and Luxembourg just a charter bus away, it was hard to sit still and keep my nose in a book. Upon graduating in 2014, my husband and I took a leap by quitting our jobs, ending our apartment lease, and selling our furniture in exchange for an unforgettable backpacking expedition through Asia until most of our funds were exhausted. We are backpackers at heart and find comfort in hostel beds and guesthouses, appreciating quirkiness and cheap thrills where they lie. With what we endure in budget-friendly accommodations, we make up for with occasional luxury splurges. We love documenting our travels and I love being able to share my insights. Now grounded back to reality, I work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle. In balancing work and finding time to travel, wayfaring is my ideal way to take advantage of vacations. By collaborating with Trip101, I hope to translate my experiences and take-aways into pieces that readers will devour, fantasize about, and apply to their own journeys.

Good things are meant to be shared!
