Whether you’re after a seaside getaway or a country retreat, Sidmouth combines the two! Abundant with beautiful gardens and landscapes and sat amongst a picturesque seaside town, Sidmouth is sure to captivate you. With a choice of hotels and b&b’s, you are sure to find something to suit your needs whilst enjoying a short break.

If only a brief visit, 24 hours in Sidmouth is enough time to explore the quaint and beautiful town.

Running amongst the flowers

Start your day at the glorious Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. The stunning gardens represent a beautiful 18th century heritage with a vast array of rare plants – perfect for those with green fingers! Once you have viewed the 6 acres of flowers, pop into the country museum or enjoy a ride on Bicton Woodland Railway – trust me, it’s a lot of fun! When all the excitement gets too much, pop into the Bicton Cafe for a snack and a look around the gift shop – and who doesn’t love a gift shop! Tickets will cost you 9 GBP, approx. 14 USD.

Afternoon stroll in the town

Sidmouth Town is the perfect place for an afternoon mooch around. With a mixture of small and unique gift shops, quirky homeware and homemade fudge stores, Sidmouth has a gift for everyone. From experience, I would say Sidmouth Town is not the sort of place you go for a pub crawl, but a place to relax and unwind. Please also note, the myth that Sidmouth is full of ‘old’ people – not true!

Once you have explored the town, head down to the seafront and admire the stunning red cliffs. Although not a long walk, the seafront is perfect for stretching your legs and enjoying beautiful scenery.

Dining at Dukes

Dinner time! With a choice of tea rooms, pubs and fine dining restaurants, I would highly recommended dining at Dukes. A pub and hotel, Dukes serves truly amazing food with a relaxed and content atmosphere. With a modern yet quirky interior, Dukes offers mouth watering dishes from unusual salads to locally sourced, juicy burgers.

If you end up dining here (you’d be a fool not too), don’t forget to try the local cider, Annings. I recommend the cucumber and elderflower flavour – but I warn you, one won’t be enough!

Spent a little longer in Devon?

Often tropical beaches are high on everyone’s bucket list, but how about visiting an English seaside town instead? With beautiful scenery and tons of character, Sidmouth is a stunning part of Devon that shouldn’t be overlooked!

If you’re like me and fall in love with tranquility of the town, why not spend a bit longer and visit the donkey sanctuary or enjoy one of the many cycle paths. For those of you who prefer a faster pace of life, why not venture over to the cathedral city of Exeter. Only 24 km, approx 15 mi, Exeter is a beautiful city abundant with life, culture and some fantastic shopping!
