Many tourists visiting the US never get a chance to see what is outside of the big cities of New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Chicago, and so on. This, of course, leads to a rather skewed view of what life is like in the United States. For those travelers who are eager to see just a little bit more, a short side trip to Norwalk, Connecticut can provide just that opportunity and the Norwalk Inn is the perfect place to stay.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 04, 2024.

Getting there

Getting to the Norwalk Inn is not too difficult. An hour long train from Grand Central Station in New York City to Norwalk, CT will cost you about 20 USD and a short cab ride from the station will bring you to the Norwalk Inn. Alternatively, renting a car and taking a road trip (around an hour long journey as well), or hiring a private car will set you back at least 150 USD. If you do go this route, you’ll be happy to hear that free parking is readily available. Once you arrive, stretch your limbs and breathe in the clean, country air. While only one hour from the hustle and bustle of NYC, it feels light years away.

Welcome to New England

Entering the lobby of the Norwalk Inn you feel like you are stepping into a different age. The oriental carpets, leather sofas and chairs, and fireplace are welcoming and homey. Guests can often be found in the lobby just lounging around. Quick and friendly check-in brings you to your room in no time.

Rooms and suites (from USD 179)

There are 77 rooms including 11 luxury suites in this hotel. Rooms are individually and uniquely furnished, with many antiques from the Colonial period. My room, while small, included a comfortable double bed, dresser, desk and night tables. To my delight, a coffee maker including complimentary coffee pods was perched on the dresser. A complete bathroom, including a bath, was well stocked with fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel for guests, and it was both quick and worked without a hitch.

The mini suite that I saw was spacious and had a lovely sitting room with a sofa, love seat, chairs, and a coffee table as well. Rooms range in price, but start around 100 USD for a small room with double bed.

Additional amenities that I did not take advantage of, but are worthwhile mentioning, is the hotel’s restaurant, Adam’s Rib, and a small swimming pool that is open during the summer season. There is also a house available for extended stay rentals, and several meeting rooms.

Walking in Norwalk

Fall foliage near the Inn

Stepping out of the Norwalk Inn, I was delighted to find a lovely park, two churches, and an old graveyard marked with gravestones of soldiers from both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. As my visit took place right after Veteran’s Day, it was touching to note the flags carefully placed on each veterans grave, no matter how long ago he or she died in action.

Moving on from the graveyard to the glorious New England display of fall foliage was a treat to all the senses. The flaming colors of red and yellow, the crunch of the leaves underfoot, and the crisp smell of fall in the air, all gathered in celebration of the season. If you are lucky enough to be in the United States at this time of year, appreciating fall in all its glory is an added reason to venture out of New York City.

A great getaway

Tired of sightseeing, crowds and noise? A weekend getaway at the Norwalk Inn might be just the thing to recharge your batteries, at the same time giving you a peek at life outside the big city, and a taste of New England in all its glory. The Norwalk Inn is both welcoming and comfortable, and will allow you to do just that.
