The gorgeous lighthouse in Jupiter was built on a hill, the location selected in 1853. The old lighthouse can be seen from the sea from a distance of 44 km (28 mi). The area where the lighthouse now stands used to be a meeting place for ancient Native American tribes. As a result, in 1972 the Loxahatchee River Historical Society (LRHS) was founded to preserve the area’s history. Now the society gives guided tours of the lighthouse and there’s a museum in the lighthouse park complex. Make a trip out to visit this site and learn more about its history.
