Backpackers exist in all shapes and sizes and they are very distinctive, what with their (more-often-that-not) big larger-than-life backpacks and roaring enthusiasm. Backpackers travel to anywhere in the world and for a variety of reasons. Some to explore the other side of the world, while others just want to “find themselves”. The question is, which type of backpacker are you? Here are some examples!
1. The “gap year” student
These types are easy to spot. They’re the ones with the map in one hand and a tech device of some sort in the other. They’ll be fascinated by every single thing they see, as if they’ve never seen them before. They’ll have free-flowing energy and … well, you get the point.
2. The escapee
They’ll be saying things like “We’re all trapped, man.“ "The government is taking control of us like puppets.”Or, “I just need to get away for a little while and just find myself, man.” I mean, we’ve all been there, right?
3. The one that just broke up
Most of the time, this one’s drunk. Or partying. Or both. Similar to #2, this one just needs some time off before venturing into singlehood. Be nice and, of course, sensitive!
4. The “do you accept credit cards?” one
He / she claims they’re on this trip to find themself, and all things along those lines, but let’s face it, they’re really just enjoying the trip with their parents’ money. He / she is the type you’ll find in a RURAL area wearing fancy clothes, carrying branded luggage containing at least 3 Apple products, and of course, insists on paying by card, never with cash.
5. The couples
Probably the easiest to spot out of all the others, what with their matching backpacks and shoes and shades and even the food they order. But awww, aren’t they cute?!
6. The musician
The musician will probably be at the hostel reception or at the corner of the cafe / bar singing anything catchy and popular … for the 14th time in the day. Or, strumming requests on a battered guitar, possibly with country stickers all over the case.
7. The “what’s the Wi-Fi password?” one
This one can never, I repeat never, stay away from his / her phone. I mean, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are waaaaay better than everything in a foreign country. Social media IS the whole point of travelling, right?

So, are you the escapee or the musician or … both? All in all, everyone should at least try backpacking one day! It’s definitely an experience not to be missed!
