Evansville is a small town in Indiana with a lot to offer. The city was founded in 1812 but was continuously inhabited by local native tribes since long before Europeans arrived. Despite the small-town atmosphere that Evansville has, the town is absolutely full of history and is home to quite a few museums. Like many other cities in the area, Evansville was affected by the Great Depression but with the advent of the Second World War, Evansville bounced back as a major center for the production of war materials, specifically aircraft and transport vehicles. Due to the amount of space and factories the city had, things like vehicles and production of ammunition made Evansville a hot spot for war-time jobs. With its connection to World War Two, Evansville Wartime Museum is dedicated to the city’s contribution to war efforts. If you’re interested in visiting, here is a guide to Evansville Wartime Museum.

Things to do

Check out the vehicles on display

When the Second World War started, the people of Evansville came together and pulled through in support of the war effort. Evansville was a perfect place for the manufacturing of war materials because the city had a lot of space and a lot of capacity for factories to manufacture boats, planes, ammunition, and vehicles. The museum is dedicated to showcasing the hard work and effort that the people of Evansville put in for the war. There are a ton of original and refurbished WWII-era vehicles on display including LST’s (Landing Ship Transports) and iconic planes like the P-47 Thunderbolt as well as Jeeps and trucks. On top of that, there are also plenty of wartime weapon displays and many of the displays are interactive – you can climb into the vehicles and check them out up-close.

See wartime uniforms

Evansville War Time Museum has a lot of displays in the museum that cover much more than just vehicles. Thanks to donations and collections done by the museum, there is a wide variety of uniforms and clothes from WWII on display.

Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, and 4th of July celebrations

Evansville War Time Museum is one of the best museums in the city and it is one of the most visited museums in town as well. Because of this, the museum hosts several events during the year like on Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July. The events are always family-friendly and there are often special attractions like an air show, fireworks, and food options available.
