Are you going on a camping trip for the first time? Chances are you may be caught unprepared in the outdoors. Packing is extremely crucial as staying in the midst of wilderness needs several essentials you would not like to forget at all. While on a majority of other trips, when you forget packing something, it is easy to get it at a store, the same is not possible while you are on a camping trip. When you are in the wilderness and find out that your backpack does not have something important, there is hardly anything for you to do. Hence, prior to heading out, consult our packing list for a camping trip in order to ensure that there is everything available with you for a great adventure.

1. Pop-up tent

Pop-up tents are ideal for your camping trips when you want to set up a tent very fast. Often, you can set up these tents within a few seconds and have to simply open its carrying case. It may take slightly more time when you are setting it up for the first time so you can do a practice of collapsing a pop-up tent prior to using it while camping. It is easy to fold them and video demonstrations and written directions are easily available online.

2. Portable campfire

A portable campfire can be used outdoors, especially in campgrounds and parks where there is no permission of using wood fires or unavailability of fire pits. When the usual wood fire cannot be used due to lack of wood or a restriction, a portable campfire is an ideal alternative. The portable campfires are ideally lightweight, easy to carry around, and compact. Also, you can assemble them very easily and they offer similar benefits to any real fire. Additionally, you can have immediate control over the flame size.

3. Sleeping bag

There are several occasions when it may be really difficult to get proper sleep at night while camping. The good news is that getting a deep sleep outdoors need not be elusive. You must carry sleeping bags positively for camping outside. They are shaped like mummies and have a snug fit so that your body heat can be retained. Also, you can carry them around easily as they are light-weight. Hence, they are an excellent fit for the campers who are always on the move. In other words, sleeping bags enable you to sleep comfortably and safely.

4. Flashlight

No matter where you are backpacking or camping, it is important to have a flashlight on hand or in a bag or a purse so that you are safe after the sunset. If you are a city person, your sensitiveness to dark places is even more. So, make sure you do not forget to pack a flashlight to prevent yourself from falling or tripping. Plus, when you are camping or hiking, it is an important piece of equipment as you are uncertain about when you will return or in case somebody gets hurt.

5. Bottled water

It is always vital to carry water while you are hiking, camping, or backpacking. While camping, you also require a lot of water for maintaining your daily hygiene, cleaning, and cooking among others. After all, it is not necessary that you will camp close to a water source always and neither is it recommended. Bottled water is possibly the most widely used means of carrying water with you while camping in the wilderness. However, they can vary in terms of cost, durability, and weight to a large extent.

6. Matches or lighter

You have to set up a fire for several activities while camping like burning some wood to warm up the sitting area or cooking. A lighter or a matchbox is hence essential for every camper or hiker while they are away from their homes for several days. A matchbox or a lighter allows you to set up a fire whenever you wish using some leaves or grass, which are easily available outdoors. While you can pack a matchbox, it is better to carry a lighter as the former may not work when it gets damp due to sudden rain.

7. Bag for collecting trash

When you pack for your upcoming camping trip, ensure that you carry something with you to eliminate nonessential food packaging. Having said so, you may have to still pack some packaging and so it is a great idea to pack a bag for trash for your camping trip. You do not have to buy any heavy-duty trash bag and it could be as simple as a grocery sack. You can then put all the food-related removable in this trash bag so that your camping gear does not attract animals or become messy.

8. Extra clothing

In case you are planning to indulge in lots of outdoor activities, make sure you carry enough clothes with you. Select lightweight fabrics while backpacking or camping, which should be essentially moisture-wicking materials. The idea is to be able to reuse the same clothes a few times. You may pack a lightweight hat, a waterproof jacket, hiking boots, a swimsuit, and wool socks (a couple of spare pairs). A rain jacket and a pair of hiking pants that will dry quickly can also come handy during your camping.

9. Bug repellent

Traveling outdoors and camping, especially in the wilderness can expose you to the risk of getting bitten by bugs. Insects like ticks and mosquitoes among others can be a real nuisance, especially when you are camping in the interiors. Also, there is a possibility of suffering from a disease and falling ill if you are not careful. Bugs are easily drawn towards food and scented lotions. So, do not forget to carry a good bug repellent cream or lotion while camping.

10. Whistle

When you go camping, make sure you tie a whistle onto the shoulder pad of your backpack. After all, a whistle can make a louder sound as compared to the voice of a human. As such, their sound will reach a further distance than screaming when you require help and get lost in the forest. You can also use them to locate your fellow campers in case you got separated from them.
