A popular scenic point, China Walls is located at Koko Kai Mini Beach Park in Hawaii Kai. It is just east of Waikiki where locals enjoy watching the beautiful sunset as well as other thrilling ocean experiences, such as surfing and cliff diving. It is about a 20 minute drive from Waikiki, so if you want to get out of Waikiki for an evening to experience what locals enjoy on their daily life, you should head over to this location. On a sunny day, you will be guaranteed to witness an incredible scenic view of the sunset.

The time of the sun setting will differ throughout the year, so before heading to China Walls make sure you know what time the sun is going to set. Of course, definitely check the weather in the area before heading out as well. Once you get to the area on a sunny day, you will see many locals coming together with friends and family, just sitting or maybe taking photographs at China Walls. You’ll often see a group of friends or couples even bringing food and drinks to enjoy a relaxing moment after work at this location. The vibe is very relaxing and friendly because this is the place where locals gather together to have a peaceful moment. It is indeed Oahu’s hidden scenic gem. Even after the sun sets, there is plenty of time to chat and relax at this location, making it a great place to have an outdoor dinner, where you can bring your favorite local food and watch the sunset together.

Cliff diving and surfing

As well as China Walls being known to be a great scenic point, it is also a great place for thrill seekers. There are local Hawaiian surfers catching big waves crushing into China Walls, and others jumping from the cliff into the ocean. It is all so exciting to watch, but unless you are experienced and comfortable with surfing, this spot is not for beginners to surf. Cliff diving is more for everyone who is comfortable in the water, but it can be pretty slippery to come back up to the wall, so make sure you know what you are doing if you are going to surf or cliff dive. The truth is, there are cases of local surfers found dead at this point as well as dogs being swept away by gigantic waves from the rocks. In fact, even you are just watching the sunset from China Walls, make sure to keep a good distance away from the edge and pay attention to changes in the size of the waves.
