They say if you love somebody, bring him or her to Verona, and indeed, this magical city is literally imbued with the spirit of love and romanticism. Yearly, thousands of couples are coming here to feel the energy in this atmosphere, which dominates this beautiful corner of Italy, but there’s only a single day in the year, when all this gets an even deeper meaning- St Valentine’s Day.

Visit Piazza dei Signori!

Piazza dei Signori is one of the central historical squares in Verona, being declared by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is considered to be one of the most romantic squares in the city; this impression being amplified during St.Valentine’s Day. Each year “Cuore da Scoprire” (“The Opened Heart”) is placed in the center of the square on this beautiful holiday. It is a huge carpet in the shape of a red heart, contoured by many charmingly decorated market stands. Here you can purchase all kinds of sweets and gifts for St.Valentine’s Day. The heart looks even more beautiful when seen from above, and the top of the Lamberti Tower (Torre dei Lamberti) will offer you the best view not only of the heart in Piazza dei Signori, but also of the whole city. In the evening you can also enjoy a live music concert in Piazza dei Signori.

Kiss in the balcony of Juliet!

It is no doubt that Shakespeare’s contribution in promoting Verona as “the city of love” was substantial when he wrote his play “Romeo and Juliet”. So ignoring it is as much impossible as not visiting the iconic house of Juliet. Apart from all the cliches, this place really does have some mysterious attraction, luring you into another century, and letting you dream about the moment when Romeo was declaring his love to Juliet. There are certain traditions and beliefs related to the house of Juliet, such as writing your love vows to your partner and sticking them on the wall of the house, touching the breast of Juliet’s statue, and affixing locks to the gate. All these are supposed to bring you luck and happiness in your love life, but one of the most romantic traditions is considered to be a kiss in Juliet’s balcony.. Indeed, what can be more charming than being in that very place near your beloved, and giving a kiss to each other? This would be the epitome of the implied promise of a long-lasting relationship.

When thinking about the perfect ending to such a beautiful day, I would suggest a romantic walk through Giardino Giusti that will make your St.Valentine’s Day an unforgettable one. The peaceful and relaxing atmosphere will distract you from the fast pace of life, and will let you enjoy the present moment. Only after finding yourself in Giardino Giusti will you understand what the English traveler Thomas Coryate, who had been here in 1611, meant when he described it as a “second paradise”. The park is decorated with fountains, mythological statues, a maze of shrubs, and an acoustic grotto.

Good to know!

St.Valentine’s Day is considered to be a very special event in Verona, and why some tourist attractions will also have a special price. You will be offered a reduced price when visiting Juliet’s House or Torre dei Lamberti. It will be twice as nice to enjoy this special day with your beloved one at a more affordable price!
