A stay at the Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg offers old world elegance and charm along with the perfect location to explore the cosmopolitan city of Hamburg, Germany. Located on the Elbe River, and counting itself as the second most important shipping port in all of Europe, Hamburg has long been famous for its international flavor, friendliness and welcome of the foreign tourist.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 04, 2024.

Large rooms with a view (from USD 215)

Rooms at the Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg are large and comfortable. The furniture is modern, as are the bathrooms. All rooms come with a view, either of the busy cobblestone city square surrounded by cafes and pubs or of the canals that abound in Hamburg. The windows are large, opening easily to let in fresh air, and providing a picturesque view of the cityscape. There are either twin beds, many of them adjustable electronically, or queen/king size beds. If bed size is important to you, make sure to ask for the ones you want, as the hotel staff is very accommodating. Bedding is classic European white, with feather pillows and comforters. Air conditioning is good, and for the hot June days we were there, absolutely essential. Free internet is available but it is incredibly slow. There is an option to pay for high speed internet.

Start your day with a great breakfast

View from the hotel

When making your reservation, make sure that the breakfast buffet is included. This is one meal not to be missed. If you decided to economize on your room and order a room without breakfast, you will pay a whopping 29 EUR or 32 USD per person for this treat. Breakfast includes an omelet station, platters of smoked salmon and gravad lox, pungent cheeses, as well as several hot dishes, cereals, yoghurts, assorted breads, rolls, and the traditional German dark bread. An assortment of ten different fruit juices are on offer every morning ranging from kiwi juice to ginger water. Coffee and tea are served directly to your table, with both specialty coffees and teas on offer.

Piano bar lobby and restaurant

Eating breakfast by the water

The lobby bar is small but friendly, with a lovely baby grand piano. Unfortunately, the piano was not played the entire week we were there. The hotel offers diners a full range restaurant open most hours of the day with both indoor and outdoor seating. Particularly attractive is the seating available directly on the picturesque square. All reports are that the food and service are terrific, although we had no personal experience there.

Location, location

Stadthaus Square in front of the hotel

Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg is located about a ten minute walk from the Rathouse, the ornate City Hall, and the Alster River. Designer shops line the streets from the hotel to the Rathouse Square, with Armani and Louis Vuitton strutting their wares. You can even try out the latest Rolls Royce at the RR showroom, where there are two masterpieces of automation on display. If you want to purchase one, you will have to find another venue, as in Hamburg there are no Rolls Royce sales, only viewings.

Public transportation is readily accessible, and not more than a minute from the hotel door, allowing one to explore the farther reaches of the city with ease. The harbor is ten minute walk, as is the botanic gardens, the art museum, and many of the important city sites.

A great place to stay

The Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg is a comfortable, old style hotel that has been updated and modernized to provide you with an outstanding stay in Hamburg. With the added bonus of a great location and friendly staff, the Steigenberger is a wonderful choice.
