With all the talk about Bali, and then the Gili Islands, Indonesia’s Lombok is an unappreciated gem of the archipelago. With less people to hamper your style, and lower prices to pamper your wallet, it’s a smart choice for value conscious beach goers and nature lovers. For those with a fondness for dogs who are looking for the comforts of (Indonesian) home, the two “Modern western house bungalow” units are a perfect fit.

A large house in a nice neighborhood

The owners also live on this good-size, gated property, but the Airbnb rentals are off to the side of the main house. While each room has its own en suite bathroom and shower, you are welcome to use the main house’s kitchen facilities, or just hang out in their living room with them if you want. It is in this same part of the house where the included breakfast is served each morning. Expect a simple egg, toast, and coffee affair, with some delicious local fruit to accompany.

In the courtyard between your room and the main house (pictured above) live two very friendly dogs with an insatiable appetite for human attention. They are great fun to play with, but if you’re not a dog person, you’re probably not going to be amused.

Spacious bedroom with air conditioning

The bedroom is a simple affair, but all the requisite components are in place. The mattress is comfy, and there is air conditioning. The sitting area is spacious, and there are plenty of power outlets, as well as ample space for your luggage. With the curtains open, the courtyard facing windows let in plenty of light. Close the curtains and privacy is completely yours.

A roomy, clean bathroom for your hygienic pleasure

Soap, shampoo, and towels are all provided and are of standard quality. The sink, toilet, and shower are all lined up like water ducks in a row, which means that there can be some splash overlap. However, the bathroom is quite large, and could easily be used by three people at once. That is, if no one minded the imposition.

One time to not be in the room is sunset

Senggigi has absolutely gorgeous sunsets, so it could be a shame for you to be in the room as the sun sinks into the sea. Views like the one above can be yours too. All it takes is about a five minute walk to the coast from the house. From there, it’s an easy stroll to numerous restaurants and bars. A supermarket is also just a few minutes’ walk from the house.

The owners can help you arrange bike rentals, laundry service, or just about any other service a tourist might need. For trips to the airport, Mataram town, or anywhere else on the island, it is easy to grab a taxi just a three minutes’ walk from the house.
