Bedding Down On The Cheap In Air-Conditioned Comfort In Yogyakarta

While it is simple to travel around most of Indonesia on the ascetic plan, that can easily entail having no hot water, shared bathrooms, and don’t even ask about air-conditioning unless you want to get laughed at. Power through your frugality glass ceiling to around the 220,000 IDR (15 USD) per night (for up to two people) price point, and at the Delta Homestay you can have not only air-conditioning and a private bathroom, but also free breakfast and use of a pool! Sounds too good to be true? As long as you set your expectations correctly, it’s not!

Your private sitting area at left as you cross the threshold

Just outside your room, you will find a lovely sitting area. Perfect for having that cup of tea or even one of the sporadically provided snacks! As a seasoned Southeast Asia travel, you will of course take the proper precautions to avoid being eaten alive by mosquitos as dusk approaches.

A bed, and a table too

Keeping in mind the bargain basement price, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that not only is there a bed, but a little table too! And that bed is pretty comfortable to boot! Having a lovely mural painted on the wall also makes for a nice touch. The air-conditioning can be set at whatever temperature you would like. One minor, but unwarranted gripe (again, think of the money you’re saving) is that there is only one power outlet in the room, and not a whole lot of space to put baggage. Free Wi-Fi is around, but not the best.

Your personal, but not completely private bathroom

So the bathroom is yours and yours alone, but the shared wall between your bathroom and the room next door’s bathroom has a slatted, open window towards the ceiling. For self-conscious types, this may cause some duress. It also can cause some stinky situations should lady luck not be on your side. Another consideration is that taking a shower will result in the entire toilet seat being sprayed with water. Just think of the sink, shower, and toilet as one big, fun water world. See how far a positive mental attitude can take you!

After a hot day, a refreshing dip in the pool is most welcome

The pool, like all the facilities at Delta Homestay, is clean and kept in good repair. It has a shallow and a deep end, which is lots of fun, since so many hotels now have been bullied by insurers into having only shallow pools. Surrounding the pool are a few sitting areas, and guest rooms too, which makes it easy to socialize, should you have the desire. The breakfast, which is made to order, but rather slim on the pickings, is enjoyed in a small, covered dining area just off the pool.

Succinctly put: it's a deal!

Breakfast, air-conditioning, a private room and mostly private bathroom all for 15 USD! And the staff is not one bit surly. Pick up a motorbike (two brave souls can ride one) for around 60,000 IDR (4 USD) a day, and you have a DIY room and transportation package for under 20 USD a day!
