See the giant Kadalekalu Ganesha

The highlight of this temple is Kadalekalu Ganesha, a beautiful stone statue that is said to have been carved out of a single boulder. It got its name from the shape of the statue’s belly, which resembles the Bengal gram (translated to ‘Kadalekalu’ in the local language). It is considered to be the largest monolithic structure in south India, with its size equivalent to the height of three men. The Ganesha figure is depicted as held by a giant hand, said to be that of his mother, goddess Parvathi, though you may need to use a flashlight to get a good look at it. The intent of the sculptor is to show Ganesha sitting on Parvathi’s lap, but the goddess herself was not depicted, with her presence instead left to the viewer’s imagination. The statue itself is located in an inner sanctum that is flanked by intricately designed pillars, each of which features mythological characters. These pillars are designed in the Vijayanagara style of architecture.
