Close to Arpora Saturday Night Market but not quite as large, Mackie’s Saturday Nite Bazaar is another popular night market in North Goa. Some even believe that Mackie’s is the original Saturday night market in the area, and its main draw is its proximity to Baga River. It offers numerous colourful stalls selling all manner of goods like souvenirs, shoes, gift items, handmade products, household items, traditional Indian apparel, Western clothes, jewellery, and many other knick-knacks. Live music and performances are held regularly at this market. Plenty of food stalls and ample parking space are also available here.

4. Tibetan Market

Located close to the beach in Calangute is the eclectic Tibetan Market that is a wonderful place to pass a morning, afternoon, or evening. As the name suggests, there are plenty of traditional Tibetan items on offer, including wooden and metal bowls, Buddist prayer flags, showpieces, artworks, traditional jewellery, handicrafts, and more. This market also has other interesting items, like Kashmiri textiles, carpets, fabrics, beautifully embroidered materials, accessories, wall hangings, and antiques. The stalls are owned by Tibetan refugees, locals, Kashmiris, and people from various other parts of India. It would make for an ideal place to buy a keepsake of your time in India.

For a quintessentially Goan market vibe, head on over to Mapusa Municipal Market. At this colourful and chaotic market, local farmers, vendors, and small business owners come to sell their wares making it a great shopping district. You can find everything from vegetables and fruits, fresh, dried, and pickled fish, traditional Goan sausages, local alcohol called ‘feni’, Goan cashew nuts, handwoven straw hats, mats and bags, aromatic spices, materials, textiles, clothes, pottery, jewellery, and anything else that you can think of! Mapusa Municipal Market is the ideal place to buy products directly from the locals.

6. Goa Collective Bazaar, Vagator

Goa Collective Bazaar, Vagator

A pulsating combination of culture, fashion, and food, the Goa Collective Bazaar at Hilltop is where everyone, locals and visitors, hang out on Fridays. Wander through a maze of stalls showcasing everything from bohemian clothing and handcrafted jewelry to contemporary art and home decor. Pay a small fee of 100 INR at the unassuming ticket counter at the entrance and get stamped to go right in and enjoy the fun and excitement. While at it, don’t forget to groove to some amazing beats as the center stage is quite popular among budding and established solo musicians and dynamic bands. Oh! And, don’t worry about getting parched or hungry - there are plenty of food stalls and beverage counters around the market. (Psss! Avoid getting your liquor inside as it’s exorbitantly overpriced.)

Note: The market is open only during the ‘season’ from November till the end of April.

7. Baga Market, Baga

Editor’s Note: There’s no photo available at the time of writing

Open from October to May, Baga Market is where you go for yummy food, interesting trinkets such as prayer flags, junk jewelry, handicrafts, and some really cool (sometimes overpriced) beach clothes and accessories. Not to be confused with the Saturday Night Market, this market is only steps away from the bustling Baga Beach. As for food, there are plenty of restaurants and rooftop cafes surrounding the area, some with great live music scenes around. My personal recommendation - skip the overrated Britto’s beach and head to the one next to it, St. Anthony’s. They don’t only have live music and karaoke now and then, but also their masala crab is to die for!

8. Calangute Market, Calangute

One of the oldest flea markets in Goa, the Calangute Market Square is the OG when it comes to a bustling street shopping scene here! Think of the 60s and 70s hippie culture and style with tens of makeshift stalls selling seashell trinkets and accessories, sarongs and beachwear, dreamcatchers and biker jackets lined up. Oh! And, food. How can I forget about lots and lots of food? Don’t miss out on the seafood when here. There is also a wet market around selling local produce (darn those yummylicious Goan sausages!). In the center, there is a Tibetan market that sells gems, antiques, silver jewelry, and many imported items, but the items are more expensive. So, be sure to tap on your haggling skills, just as I did! By the way, it is one of the only markets that is open 365 days a year.

9. Colva Market, Colva

Editor’s Note: There’s no photo available at the time of writing

Located in the other part of the town, namely South Goa, Colva Beach Market is where you go for trendy accessories and snazzy outfits. Think luxury and boutique but with fleamarket price tags! The trick to navigating the market is to know where to look and use your best bargaining skills. Other than voguish clothes, the beach market is also known for backpacks, accessories, and travel trinkets. If you’re planning to grab a piece back home, I suggest that you get those “I Love Goa” tank tops and shot glasses here. Colva Beach, one of the most stunning in Goa, is only a few steps away from the market. I wouldn’t fail to take a break and cool down with a pint by a beach shack on my visit for sure.

10. Palolem Market

Editor’s Note: There’s no photo available at the time of writing

It is not wrong to say that Palolem is the ‘north of south Goa’. This is where all the happening parties and social events take place. Among these is the wonderful beachside market of Palolem. The market is a combination of makeshift stalls selling souvenirs, hammocks, and toys to stores selling gems, carpets, and flavored tea. While they are open every day from 11 AM to 8 PM, I noticed it remains open a bit later during peak months. Palolem Market is also where you must try the local Goan specialties. Trust me when I say that the delicacies at Dropadi’s are worth trying.
