The world of travel is once again filled with excitement as the biggest change to Airbnb in a decade has finally launched. In keeping up with the way people travel, the company unlocks its new features on its 2022 summer release. “We thought this is the perfect time to create a new Airbnb for the new world of travel,” said Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky.

Airbnb leans into the new era of travel as data shows a growing trend for longer stays and workations. According to Airbnb, people are more flexible than ever about when to travel and where to stay. To help users take advantage of the possibilities, they have released new features including Categories, Split Stays, and AirCover. So how do these upgrades affect users? Let’s take a look at each feature in detail.

Airbnb Categories

The latest change begins with Categories, a flexible way to search for unique homes based on style, location, or proximity to a travel activity. Users can now browse through 56 categories with over 4 million rentals right from the Airbnb homepage.

Some of the highlighted categories are Design, which features homes with expertly designed architecture and interiors, and OMG!, which groups stays based on their wow factor. This update also works alongside destination search wherein the results will be organized by categories. You can search for France and the categories applicable to the location will show.

Users, Airbnb shared, have been on the unconscious cycle of location and date-based process of travel search. And they’re making it easy for travelers to discover loads of unique places through its curated categories. With this, the company also hopes to address over-tourism by letting users know of other destinations they would’ve never known to search for.

Airbnb Split Stays

As people are looking to get out and explore for longer bookings, Airbnb is giving its users more options when planning their travels with Split Stays. This allows travelers to split their time between two different rentals in the same area just in case one of the two homes is unavailable for the entirety of the trip.

Split Stays automatically show up on your search results when you’re booking for a stay longer than a week. It pairs the right two homes with the same location, amenity, and property to match the needs for a long stay. What’s even better is how you can use it across the 14 new categories, which comes in handy when creating an itinerary on the platform. Airbnb says it will enable users to discover about 40% more listings when booking extended stays.

AirCover

People are starting to redirect their sights to traveling again since the pandemic restrictions are generally easing up worldwide. Airbnb acknowledges the health and safety concerns of its users through AirCover, a comprehensive set of free protection for guests. This covers four protections that give travelers a sense of security with every stay on Airbnb.

AirCover includes a booking protection guarantee, check-in guarantee, get-what-you-booked guarantee, and 24-hour safety line. Through this full-scale safety net, guests will be protected against host cancellations, check-in disruptions, and false advertisements. If any of these cases arise, the company will either find guests the same or better home or provide a refund. Its users will also have 24/7 access to specially-trained agents.

Discover more properties and destinations with Airbnb

There has been a huge gain in the first quarter of 2022 in people who are ready for longer trips and exotic destinations—as released by Airbnb. The company has picked up the trend and adapted with Categories and Split Stays that allow users to search by whatever their passion and interests are. An added tier of protection, AirCover, completes the full-range package.

With a completely redesigned app and website, Airbnb ultimately aims for travelers to discover more properties, destinations, and a whole realm of possibilities. As the world reopens, it hopes to give travelers the confidence to explore and go on vacation again.
