Meet the splendid and heaven-like Holehird Gardens! Aren’t they simply gorgeous? Indeed, Holehird Gardens Site is actually a huge location in Windermere, Cumbria. The garden was created in the 19th-century. But since then it has been expanded and changed so much that you can’t even recognize it any longer! Today it houses a total of 3 separate types of gardens, a display house, and several glasshouses as well. What’s really mind-blowing about these gardens is that they are fully operated and managed by volunteers of the LHS (Lakeland Horticultural Society).

Come around: you don’t have to be an experienced gardener to volunteer! So, why not try it out, right?

The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction offers a whole lot of unforgettable experiences and memories. There is a total of 8 separate activity areas as the thrilling tour begins with a 4-minute-long introduction. The idea of this introductory part is to meet you with the author’s illustrations and stories. There are also exhibition rooms with 3D scenes in which the stories are displayed, a garden, a room that provides a virtual walk of the Cumbria countryside, a shop, and a tea room where you can treat yourself with home-made tasty cakes, soups and more. The 17th-century farmhouse of Beatrix Potter - a famous English author and illustrator - is like a time-capsule of her life. The Hilltop Farm, or just Hill Top, was one of the author’s favorite spots. There are flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs in the cottage garden, all of which are mixed together, and the interior of the house is just splendid! Despite the timed ticket system, sometimes there are too many visitors and you will have to wait in line to enter the house.

Don’t miss it: apart from this tiny detail, the National Trust’s Hill Farm is a total win that you should not miss out on!

5. Lakeland Motor Museum

The Lakeland Motor Museum holds a pretty huge collection of 30,000 exhibits amongst which are the famous 140 classic cars and motorbikes as well. The museum is open 7 days a week and is located in the Leven Valley. The memory lane displays recreated scenes, in the “stories” area where you can learn so much about the historic Blue Mill, Woodland Industries, Gunpowder factories, etc. Additionally, the prominent Lakeland Motor Museum boasts a rich exhibition area that keeps a whole lot of other scenes recreated by realistic mannequins.

This unusual National Trust Castle is absolutely an ideal place for you and your family! You can get there on foot, by bicycle, or by taking one of the regular lake cruises from Ambleside. The castle is child-friendly since its “original contents” are all gone. There’s a Peter Rabbit Adventure available for the little visitors as well, while the older ones can totally enjoy other fun activities. Note that the car park is pretty small as it gets crowded as swiftly as an arrow. Therefore, you had better come around by bus or boat.
