Most of us needing a hotel troll the internet in search of the best deal. While the lowest price is important, who wants a fleabag hotel? I’ve been flying in and out of Seatac airport for more than four decades and know most of the hotels close by. Only recently did I try the SeaTac Clarion Hotel when my usual choices were too expensive.

Close to the airport

Since the Clarion SeaTac Hotel’s renovations, visitors get a budget hotel that is clean, fairly quiet, and perfectly located for a trip to Seattle. First on the list of reasons to stay here is the 24 hour on-demand free shuttle. Upon landing and picking up bags, travelers proceed to the pedestrian overpass and descend to the shuttle bus pickup area. At that point a call is placed to the hotel and the shuttle usually picks up guests within fifteen minutes or less.

At the hotel, two reception clerks handle the shuttle passengers check in needs. Your room will be in one of two wings, neither of which is far away. Before departing the lobby area guests can buy light meals or snacks at the café, Bistro C, and snack shop next to the lobby. Guestrooms have most of what travelers need. There is a desk, comfortable arm chair, black-out drapes, and decent air conditioning units.

Rooms come in single queen, double queen, triple queen, single king, king suite, and king superior suite configurations. Accessible rooms are available and come with a queen bed. Beds, pillows, and linens are a cut above a true low-budget hotel you might find nearby.

Hotel amenities include an indoor pool, fitness center, brand new business center, and free Wi-Fi internet access. Meeting rooms for events capable of holding 5–125 guests are available. The newly renovated Bistro C and lounge serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A full bar serves mixed drinks, beer, and wine from the northwest, during the afternoon and evening. Four big-screen TVs are there for sports fans or other programing.

Steps away from the light rail

Light rail station

The best aspect of staying at the Clarion SeaTac Hotel is the location. You are just steps away from the Link Light Rail. For less than 4 USD you can ride one way to Seattle’s Pioneer Square in just over 30 minutes. Ride a few stops further and you are near the famous Pike Place Market. At the market you will find dozens of cool shops, restaurants for just about every taste and price range, and the first Starbucks ever is just across the street.

Other places to find great food

Copperleaf restaurant outdoor seating

You don’t need to hop the light rail to find restaurants and convenience stores. Several decent restaurants are an easy walk away from the Clarion SeaTac like 12 Coins, Sharps Roasthouse, and Masae’s Teriyaki — a small but good Japanese restaurant next to the 7-11. For fine dining, try Copperleaf Restaurant in the Cedarbrook Lodge. With all the money you saved by staying at the Clarion SeaTac you could afford a nice meal in this building that was once a corporate retreat for the Washington Mutual lending group. It’s just a short Uber ride away or a twenty minute walk.

An easy choice for budget travelers

While not a true low-budget hotel, the Clarion SeaTac is usually the best low-price hotel in the immediate airport area. It’s clean and newly renovated making it an easy choice for those wanting to spend less on quality lodging near the SeaTac Airport.
