1. Robbers Cave State Park

The Rough Canyon Trail is one of the trail treks in Robbers Cave State Park and is located near Wilburton, Oklahoma. When trekking, you will occasionally be able to overlook a scenic mountain and a lake. However, when trekking on this trail it will be easier for experts since the trail is rather difficult. The park offers overnight accommodations in cabins, lodge and lake huts, and two other camp facilities. The accommodation comes fully equipped with kitchen wares, satellite TV, and shower. There are many recreational activities in the park such as a mini-golf course, paddleboat rentals and an all-terrain vehicle (ATV); the park is also family-friendly. 2. Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park

The park has several different trails for you to choose from. It offers you the option of five usable trails and they range from 0.6 miles (1 kilometre) to 3.9 miles (6.3 kilometres). It is a favourite among rappellers. If you are looking for a short adventure, Rough Horsetail Nature Trail is the shortest loop trail and is about less than a mile. The park is accessible all year round and it is located near Hinton, west-central of Oklahoma. They are also pet-friendly. However, you have to keep your pets on leash. It is perfect if you need a short getaway to experience the geographical formations.

The estimated 8 miles (12.87 kilometres) trail is perfect for a family trip. The trail is located at Kenton, Oklahoma. It will take about four hours depending on how you pace yourself. The trail is a steady climb for you to reach to the top. It is a lot of hard work and you will need to be in good shape. When you reach the top, your hard work pays off as you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the landscape. Be sure to stay hydrated as it can get incredibly hot. Also, beware of snakes!

4. Elk Mountain

Elk Mountain is a part of Wichita Mountains and is amongst the most precious gems when hiking in Oklahoma. It is approximately 100 km (62 mi) away from Oklahoma City. You need to be in good shape as it is a continuous gradual climb. Climbing up this mountain has a longer and more difficult approach as compared to other trails. Furthermore, Elk Mountain hosts four different climbing areas which are Elk Slabs, Pear and Apple, the Treasure Cove and Secret Agent Dome. When you reach the top, you will be greeted with the view of Charon Garden Wilderness. No wonder, it remains as one of the most beloved places to climb. Be sure to spot a colourful boomer lizard.

Not only will you get to hike, but recreational activities are available such as a swimming pool, golf course, horseback riding and some water activities, just to name a few. 7. Dripping Springs Trail


Dripping Springs is one of the fantastic trails in Natural Falls State Park. The route type is loop and rather short which is about 1-mile (1.6 kilometres) long. Hence, it is perfect for beginner to intermediate levels. It takes about an hour or two to complete the trail. Additionally, if you need a short break, this trail is just for you. The park allows pets, however, they need to be leashed at all times. What makes the trail so attractive is that there is a waterfall.
