If you love nature, or you’d like to visit a new destination that people barely know about, you should visit Yogyakarta. From the Kulon Progo district, you can go to Jatimulyo village and find a natural water park that has multi-coloured water, like blue, white, and turquoise. It’s called Water Park Alami and the main waterfall is called Kedung Pedut. The white color comes from the waterfall in the pond, while the turquoise comes from siltation/limestone rocks, and the blue comes from the depth of the pool.

Prepare extra energy to enjoy the journey

Located at Jatimulyo village, Kedung Pedut is 53 kilometers (32.9 miles) from Adisucipto Airport; you can reach the entrance of the water park in about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. Kedung Pedut Waterfall is one of several new destinations that recently opened to the public in the Kulon Progo district of Yogyakarta. If you like visiting quieter tourist destinations that are not full of visitors, and places in nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then this is a good choice for you.

From the parking area, you will need to walk for about 30 minutes to get to the waterfalls. Tickets to enter the park are cheap, at only 3,000 IDR per person (approximately 0.23 USD).

You’ll need energy and a good pair of shoes for your trip to the waterfall; the footpath is narrow, steep and slippery after rainfall. You’ll also have to cross a river full of big rocks. It is challenging but also worthwhile because after the long and difficult walking road, you can enjoy the freshness of the water from the waterfall.

Pass two smaller waterfalls on the way to Kedung Pedut

After about 20 minutes of walking along a natural footpath, past a river with big rocks, and over a wooden bridge, you will reach the main destination of Kedung Pedut Waterfall.

Swim and jump into the water from height

The fresh atmosphere will welcome you when you arrive at Kedung Pedut Waterfall. It’s as if the turquoise water is inviting you to jump and plunge into it. There is a pond near the waterfall where you can swim and jump in from wooden scaffolding.

There is no time limit on how long you can swim and stay there, but it is advised to return to your car before dark because it will be hard to find the footpath at night and while surrounded by the trees.

Pass over the Kedung Pedut Waterfall by flying fox

Walking down to Kedung Pedut Waterfall and walking back up to the car-parking area can be tiring, which is why the administrators of Kedung Pedut provide a flying fox as a means of a shortcut across the waterfall. You will just have to pay 20,000 IDR (approximately 1.50 USD) and you can enjoy the glide at altitude.

Enjoy your adrenaline-filled holiday without the crowds

The advantages of visiting a new destination are that you won’t have to deal with crowds and you can enjoy the serenity of nature. Just wear a pair of comfortable shoes that are fit for the challenging road, carry drinking water, and take extra clothes if you want to swim. Have fun enjoying nature without the crowds at Yogyakarta’s Kedung Pedut.
