Now that it is the year-end festive season, are you still pondering where to go for your holidays? How about a visit to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam for some great food and history with an interesting fusion of east-meets-west culture? There is a wide range of accommodation options to choose from in this city with a French influence, from backpacker hostels and guest houses to both budget and posh hotels.

If you would like to pamper yourself a little on your next holiday, I highly recommend a stay at Le Meridien Saigon, part of the luxurious Starwood Hotels & Resorts Group. A relatively new entrant to the Ho Chi Minh City hotel scene, as it only opened its doors in September 2015, Le Meridien Saigon is the ideal choice for you to conveniently enjoy the city yet relax in style away from the crowded city centre.

Strategic location in the city centre and by the Saigon River

Situated in the heart of the city in District 1, guests at Le Meridien Saigon enjoy convenient access to major sightseeing spots from an idyllic setting along the Saigon River. Popular tourist sights such as Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica and Reunification Palace are within 2 kilometres (1.2 miles), or a 10-minute drive, from the hotel. Convenience stores, restaurants, clubs and spas are also within a stone’s throw of the 5-star hotel. Furthermore, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport is just a 30-minute drive away. Staying at Le Meridien Saigon gives you superb connectivity to anywhere in the city, and it is strategically located to allow you to escape from it all. When you just don’t feel like getting into the hustle and bustle of the congested city, just relax in the luxurious hotel and let all your worries drift away on the rustic Saigon River.

Luxuriously large rooms for utmost comfort

Premier classic room with river view

There are 343 guest rooms and suites occupying 12 floors in the hotel, all tastefully furnished and with the smallest room being 38 square metres (409 square feet) in size. This is a luxurious size by Vietnamese standards, so you are assured of utmost comfort and plenty of space to move about in the room. Enter the spacious room and you will immediately feel welcomed by the chic room, fitted with stylish amenities common in a luxury hotel, like the 42-inch (107-cm) smart LED television, contemporary work desk and cheery, plush red chair. In addition, the hotel’s signature bed is so invitingly comfortable that, once you get on the bed, it is hard to pull yourself off. The master remote controls beside the bed allow you to easily draw down the blackout curtains as well as control the lighting in the room, so you can laze in bed and get ample undisturbed rest for as long as you wish.

Airy bathroom for a nice and relaxing bath or shower

Step into the modern bathroom, fitted with a glass feature wall, and you will be delighted to find that it is roomy as well. Besides the rainforest shower, there is a fine bathtub that you can use for a therapeutic soak. The toilet cubicle is also separated with a door, so you can use the bathroom at the same time as your roommate, as long as you are using different facilities. Do not worry about the see-through bathroom if you prefer privacy, as you can draw down the blinds anytime you like. It is hard to find any fault in this luxuriously large room designed with all the modern amenities and toiletries that you desire!

Rejuvenating and relaxing spa experience in the hotel

Private spa room

While it is common to find upscale hotels with a spa facility, the Explore Spa at Le Meridien Saigon certainly needs a special mention. Once you step out of the elevator on the 9th floor, you will be surprised to find a unique wooden bird-cage design at the entrance of Explore Spa, with floating discs hanging from the ceiling. Unlike some other hotel spas, Explore Spa is brightly lit, and the wavy platform to the reception makes you feel like you have entered a brand new oasis.

Pamper yourself with a wide array of rejuvenating spa treatments for the face, body and feet. It is best to make a reservation prior to arrival for your treatment to avoid disappointment, as the spa only serves up to 7 guests at any time. Make sure you ask for a couple’s room if you prefer to be together in the same room with your partner for your treatment, as most of the rooms are for individual guests to ensure utmost privacy. As you can see from the image above, the spa room’s decor is sleek and cosy.

Personally, I had a wonderful 150-minute invigorating Glow Spa Package, which comprised a 30-minute body exfoliation, a 60-minute marine detoxifying & relaxing aromatherapy massage, and a 60-minute seawater pearl hydrating facial therapy. Prior to the purifying treatment, I also enjoyed a healthy light meal, consisting of organic vegetable salad, seaweed soup and watermelon smoothie at Explore Bistro next to the spa. It was a fabulous spa experience that I thoroughly enjoyed like no other. Throughout the treatment, my therapist ensured I enjoyed the treatment in comfort and privacy. She was also thoughtful to turn on the rain shower before I went in for a quick rinse after the body scrub, so that the water would not be too cold for me. Grab this Glow Spa package at a promotional price of 2,017,000++ VND (89++ USD) till 28 February 2017, a whopping 45% off the normal price of 3,680,000++ VND (162.70++ USD). This is definitely a value for money experience to pamper yourself for the New Year!

Wide array of delicious food options without stepping out of the hotel

Part of the breakfast buffet spread

Saigon, as the city is commonly known, is renowned for its mouth-watering local street food. However, when you just don’t feel like stepping out of the hotel, for whatever reasons, you will have a great selection of delicious food options to tuck into as well. For breakfast, which is not included in your stay, perk yourself up with the sumptuous international buffet spread at Latest Recipe restaurant on the mezzanine floor. You may also grab a freshly brewed complimentary coffee daily at Latitude 10 Lounge, the cosy coffee bar on the ground floor. For lunch and dinner, treat yourself to Cantonese and Japanese fusion cuisine at the contemporary Bamboo Chic restaurant on the 9th floor, or enjoy signature Vietnamese pho (Vietnamese rice noodle soup made with beef or chicken, bean sprouts and fresh herbs) and a traditional banh mi baguette at Latest Recipe.

Dessert and pastry lovers will be delighted with the indulgent bites made with local seasonal ingredients at Art Cacao Deli on the ground floor. Feel like you have been eating too much good food? Detoxify with healthy food and beverages at Explore Bistro, adjacent to the spa and indoor pool on the 9th floor. At night, enjoy live cultural entertainment at Latitude 10 Lounge, which transforms into a cool bar with soft lighting. With so many lovely dining options within the hotel, it is difficult to go hungry even if you don’t go out!

pool overlooking Saigon River

All cardio machines feature individual TVs and iPod docks for personalised entertainment, and headphones are available if you need them. Furthermore, enjoy panoramic views of the Saigon River as you work out on these state-of-the-art machines. Group exercise classes and personal training sessions are also available in the fitness centre if you prefer a guided workout.

Just beside the fitness centre is an indoor saltwater pool overlooking the river. After a good swim, rest and chill on the swanky poolside chairs, while enjoying your drink with a view.
