Bundaran HI, literally translated as ‘HI Circle’, is the roundabout located in Central Jakarta, the most elite district in the Indonesian capital city where many diplomatic and business offices are located.

Here lies the icon of Jakarta, ‘The Welcome Monument’ (‘Monumen Selamat Datang’ in Indonesian), the statues of a young man and woman waving their hands to welcome visitors to come to the city, surrounded by skyscrapers and several top notch hotels, including Mandarin Oriental Jarkata, which is very noticeable from every angle of the roundabout.

Beautifully noticeable from the street

When you are in this location, you’ll notice the authentic symbol of a giant hand-held fan, an icon of the Orient, attached on one of the tall buildings in the area. At first you may not know what kind of building it is, but when you pay more attention to it, you will see the word “Mandarin Oriental’ written under the giant fan.

Service above all

Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta is one of the 29 Mandarin Oriental hotels located worldwide. Like many other 5-star hotels, facilities are very clean, modern and well maintained. I love the oriental details in its lobby, with red light fixtures and tall red pillars. However, what makes this hotel outstanding is the great hospitality by the friendly staff.

From the moment you arrive at the airport until the moment you check out, everything is perfect. At the airport, you will be greeted by the hotel’s friendly personnel. Upon seeing you, they call you by your name. They help you to carry your luggage and drive you to the hotel in one of the hotel’s luxurious cars (they have a new BMW).

All staff are very professional. They speak very good English and they know how to be good hosts to their guests. Make sure you tell the personnel when booking if you have a special occasion like a wedding anniversary, as they can present you with a bouquet of flowers and some chocolates upon your arrival.

Lavish rooms at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta

All rooms at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta are spacious and offer superb extras, such as complimentary high speed Wi-Fi access, as well as free cocktails and snacks delivered to your room during the afternoon (after lunch time). If you book a club room or a suite, you will have a separate living room with one TV in the bedroom and the other TV in the living room.

Besides the lavishness, you will find that it is very soundproof so you won’t hear any noise from the street. Rooms on the higher floors have a view of Jakarta city, including The Welcome Monument, which is a good subject for photography. With rooms that are spacious, luxurious and with the best view of Jakarta, what else can you expect?

Luxurious bathroom

The bathroom is really special. It has an electronic toilet, a large bathtub, a separate shower room with choices of showers (one showering from above and one from the wall, with stable supply of hot water all day long), double sinks and a walk-in closet.

There are complimentary toiletries you can find inside the bathroom, from dental and shaving kits to bath salts and emery boards to file your nails. A hair dryer, iron and ironing board are also provided. It, indeed, has all that one wants for luxurious and convenient stay.

The hotel's food is delicious!

mandarin oriental, jakarta: centrally located luxury hotel in indonesia | the hotel's food is delicious!

Rooms rates include a breakfast buffet at the Cinnamon restaurant and it is one of the most lavish ones that you will find in Jakarta. They offer healthy veggie juices and extensive choices of local and international foods. Everything is delicious including their cronuts; the crispy donuts are soft on the outside but crispy in the inside, and are covered with icing made of dark chocolate and almond. It’s best to try a little bit of everything so that you don’t miss out on the great flavors.

Mandarin Oriental Jakarta also has some other good restaurants and bars (e.g. Lyon, a French restaurant; Azure, a pool bar), but if you want to eat at the restaurant with the best dim sum (assorted Chinese dumplings) in Jakarta, go to Xin Hua Chinese Restaurant, which is located on the second floor. The rich fillings are wrapped with thin dough that literally melts in your mouth.

And if you are lazy to leave your comfortable room? Just call for room service!

Enjoy living car-free

Upon your booking, simply let the hotel personnel know if you want a room with a better view of The Welcome Monument, as the view is remarkable at night, and you can see something different on Sunday morning. If you stay in the hotel on Saturday night, it is a good idea if you can get up earlier on Sunday morning to join the crowd for an occasion called ‘car free day’, held every Sunday from 6 am to 11 am.

No matter the time, streets in all areas of Jakarta are always packed with vehicles. In contrast, on Sunday morning you can see zero traffic on the streets of several areas in Jakarta, including the ones around the monument. Don’t miss this opportunity to work out and enjoy the fresh morning air.

You will love the Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta

Other amenities at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta include the serene swimming pool (there are lifeguards in the area to ensure your safety), located on the 5th floor of the hotel, and a gym you can use for free.

Care for some shopping? Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia, two of the best malls in Jakarta with the best varieties of top notch local and international brands, are only about 100 meters away. There is a free taxi shuttle taking you to and from the malls (ask the receptionist for a taxi). If you have been in Jakarta several times but haven’t been to Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta, I suggest you try it. You will become a fan and want to stay here for yet another day!
