Fonda was founded by chef and cookbook author Roberto Santibañez. He combines contemporary techniques with old-fashioned ingredients to recreate the dishes of his home town, Mexico City. You can find traditional dishes, like his enchiladas in mole, or more modern ones, like his Duck Zarape. At Fonda, all of the tortillas are pressed by hand the guacamole is made to order.

Calexico is a border town, located along the California/Mexico line. When natives moved to New York, they missed their home town food and the hit restaurant was born. They started with just tacos and burritos from a hand cart, and have grown to a number of restaurants in, and out. of the city. Their tacos are still just as popular as ever, or try their Baja Fish Burrito, served bowl-style. They are probably best known for their housemade chipotle “crack” sauce which is quite addicting.

Their menu includes tasty favorites from Mexico, but as the name says, they are best known for their tacos. They make their own corn tortillas by hand and cook them on a Comal, just like they do south of the border. If you are not sure what to try to go for the Brooklyn, a platter of three barbecued pork belly tacos served with cabbage, pickled vegetables, salsa and topped with cilantro.

The restaurant was created by chef Arturo Leonard who wanted to bring the authentic flavors of his homeland to the big city.
