Opened with the aim to have a positive impact on the community, Jin Ramen grew to fame in 2012 with their special style of making ramen: Hakata. One of the top three styles of ramen, Hakata is a style which has a very pungent smell, thanks to a pork rib broth called tonkatsu. It is served with pickled ginger and lots of sesame seeds. Other than that, the restaurant is also known for its delicious pork dumplings known as gyoza that happen to be the perfect appetizers for your ramen. Considering the quality and quantity of the food, the restaurant is always almost full but thankfully, they deliver so even if you can’t eat out for the day, you won’t be missing out on Jin’s Ramen.

After opening in 2010, Totto Ramen soar to popularity because of their unique take on the much-beloved dish. With many competitive Ramen restaurants, the thing that makes Totto stand out is their choice of chicken broth over pork but don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you won’t get a rich and creamy broth with your ramen. For the noodles, they pair handmade straight noodles with thicker ones to complement their broth. Not only do they have good portions and their ramen is just full of delectable meat, they even have some hangover cures on hand, making this a place one can visit for anything and everything. The restaurant also has vegetarian options, making it a place for just about everyone.

You can either sit at the counter and watch the chefs work their magic, or you can get a table and be served with warmth. Most ramen in Tabata comes with a chicken broth, but the Kyushu ramen comes with mixes in pork broth with bone marrow to create a cloudy yet delicious combination. Started by the famous chef Masaharu Morimoto, Momosan Ramen and Sake was created to have more of a chic and casual setting. Unlike most restaurants, the ramen at Momosan comes in four variations with two different sizes. The pork chasu which is included in many ramen dishes is sliced thin and the noodles, unlike most, don’t get soggy quickly, giving you the chance to enjoy your dish at leisure. Some dishes bring a blend of Korean and Japanese as the owner of the restaurant believes in fusion cooking. Apart from that, Momosan has an extensive drinks menu with twenty sake options, three draught and three bottled beers, and two types of white and red wine.

Started by chef Jun Park, Jun-Men Ramen Bar is a lively and well-packed restaurant. If you’re in the mood for classic ramen dishes like spicy miso ramen, you’ll get your hearts desire. However, the reason why people flock to this restaurant is the executive chef’s fusion approach to ramen. Trained in French cuisine, Jun Park brings everything he has learned to the world of ramen, bringing guests dishes like fried-chicken buns with jalapeño mayo, and Romaine greens with Parmesan, fried garlic, and a yuzu dressing. If that’s not enough to make your mouth water, the tonkotsu (pork bone) broth at Jun-Men is the richest one you’ll find in New York.

7. E.A.K. Ramen

A part of the famous Japanese restaurant chain, E.A.K Ramen was brought to America with the hopes of popularizing an Iekei-style of ramen. An intensive process has to be followed to make the broth for this style of ramen, which then brings a blend of pork tonkatsu and the chicken and soy-based shoyu ramen. The noodles used are short and thick, but are considered better than thin noodles as thicker noodles carry the broth in every bite. Along with this, the restaurant also brings Japanese side dishes like kaarage, gyoza, pork-belly buns, and more.

Mr. Taka was a dream project started by two childhood friends in Japan: Chef Takatoshi Nagara and co-owner Takayuki Watanabe. After becoming the owner of his own Michelin-star restaurant in Tokyo, Check Takatoshi use the knowledge he’d gathered over the years to bring his customers high-quality ramen with Mr. Taka. While the noodles themselves are nothing short of spectacular, the real hero at this restaurant is the broth, which is rich, creamy and so packed with flavour that once you start drinking, you won’t stop until you’ve had the very last drop. The meat served with the ramen is juicy enough to leave you wanting more. Though a little underrated, Mr. Taka does serve some of the best ramen in New York City.

As one of the four ‘Ramen Gods’, Chef Shigetoshi Nakamura brought his first restaurant to the United States with Nakamura. Even among the innumerable ramen restaurants in New York, this one stands out because of its torigara shoyu. A classic dish made from a chicken and seafood broth seasoned with Japanese soy sauce, the thing that makes this dish so unique is the delicacy and flavour balance, something that other ramens simply cannot match. Clinging to firm noodles, the broth fills your mouth with every bite. Lastly, the dish is topped with pork shoulder or rich belly meat, taking guests to a whole new level of flavour with every bite.
