(3)Bulusan Volcano National Park is an eco-destination with a lot to offer. When we went here, we settled the entrance and environmental fees. Charged shuttle services are even accessible. However, note that climbing the peak has been prohibited due to the active volcano, which does not allow entry at the 4-kilometer (2-mile) radius Permanent Danger Zone. So, we just strolled the surrounding trails and the canopy walkway, which offers scenic views of the lake and the lush forest. Visitors can also try kayaking, boating, fishing, and paddleboarding at a fee. There are even protected bird species and endemic jade vines around the lake. After all the sightseeing and other activities, we went to the nearby Sagurong Restaurant and indulged in mouthwatering buffet meals.

The municipality of Matnog is perfect for a beach holiday as it is home to the famous Subic Beach! If you’re commuting from Sorsogon City Grand Terminal, you can ride the minibus heading to Matnog proper, which is about a one-hour ride. From this beach, you can enjoy the pristine waters of Subic Liit and Subic Dako. This stunning place is also an ideal base if you're like me who loves to go on island hopping as several tour operators from the town offer such. When we went here, one of the famous side trips we experienced was feeding the different fish species, riding a bamboo raft, and snorkeling at Juag Lagoon Fish Sanctuary. Plus, the pink-sand Tikling Island is also nearby.

This Neoclassical church in the tranquil town of Barcelona was built in honor of Saint Joseph the Worker. Its façade and exterior still have their centuries-old charm, while the belfry has been updated and the interiors were restored by the National Historical Commission. Moreover, its ceilings have stunning paintings of religious scenes, which makes this place a work of art. This place is even more magical during Christmas, with several decorations and nightlights. After the mass, you can also head to a café called Curia, which sits beside the church and offers pasta, cakes, and coffee. Alternatively, you can enjoy meals at Food Alley fronting the place while enjoying the views of the Pacific Ocean and the centuries-old structures at Barcelona Ruins Park.

If you want to enjoy three cascading waterfalls near each other, visiting Zoe's Resort & Eco Adventure Park in San Roque, Bulusan, is a perfect idea. We frequent this place since it is home to Kambal Busay Falls, Hulugan Falls, and the Hidden Falls, where we spend the entire day soaking and swimming. Just note that you need to trek for a few minutes to reach the first two waterfalls, while it takes a 30-minute trek to get to Hulugan Waterfalls. We also did not have to worry about the slippery rocks and boulders since tour guides were always present to assist. However, if you are not keen on trekking, you can avail of the tractor ride, which can bring you to the trailhead.

If you are heading to Sorsogon Province and want to experience staying on the slopes of Mt. Bulusan, the family-owned Balay Buhay sa Uma Bee Farm is a must-visit. While here, we were able to enjoy basking in the verdant 4-hectare (9-acre) land with 2,400 colonies of stingless bees and different varieties of trees, flowers, and herbs. It also has eco-lodges if you want to stay for the night.
My family and I frequent here to relax and soak in the cold springs of Batis sa Uma. If hunger strikes, the on-site café offers beverages and snacks. Another great thing about this place is that it has a pavilion restaurant serving native delicacies. You can even buy pure honey and taro chips as gifts for your loved ones. Plus, guests can book the function hall for seminars, weddings, and other events.

Saigon Central Post Office is one of Ho Chi Minh’s gems. Aside from its stunning Neoclassical and colonial architecture, this centrally located place is just adjacent to the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saigon and near Diamond Plaza. The main area of the building is where tourists can send postcards, letters, and other parcels. Meanwhile, its left and right sides are the areas where we purchased a few souvenirs. However, remember to haggle for a lower price, as some items can be quite pricey. To avoid the crowds, my friends and I visited this attraction in the morning as it gets busy during the afternoon. Additionally, other mementos and street food are available outside the post office.

Visiting one of the tallest buildings in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh’s highest viewing deck is a thrilling experience for someone who is afraid of heights like me. However, I conquered my fear and eventually had a lovely time with my friends. Its elevator is also one of the fastest, operating at 7 meters (22 feet) per second. From its 49th-floor Sky Deck, we enjoyed a 360-degree view of the city and the Saigon River. Afterward, we went to the on-site Ao Dai Gallery and witnessed a collection of Vietnam’s national dress. It is best to go here during sunset to enjoy stunning views and the city’s transition to its vibrant night scene. Moreover, visitors can buy keepsakes such as shirts, traditional fans, and bags from here.

Mekong Delta, located in the south of Vietnam, has several fishing villages, rivers, and islands. From here, my friends and I enjoyed the serene Vinh Trang Pagoda, which is a Buddhist temple with sleeping and sitting Buddhas. Other activities include rowing in the delta and visiting a coconut candy establishment, where we bought delicacies and gifts for our families and friends. Guests will also love tasting seasonal fruits from local orchards, sipping honey tea, and indulging in a sumptuous seafood meal at An Khanh.

The Manor at Camp John Hay is one of the most excellent accommodations for a getaway in the City of Pines. While here, you can bask in the cool mountain breeze while strolling around the garden. My relatives love staying here as it has spacious suites with premium amenities and stunning views. Moreover, this place is more magical in the month of December, since the entire property is filled with Christmas decorations and lights.
Our favorite hangout place here is The Fireplace Lounge, where one can enjoy a cup of coffee and make friends with fellow travelers. Aside from friendly staff, this place has an exceptional spa service at a fee. Kids will even love the arts and crafts area. For a fun day, exploring the nearby Bell House and Mines View Park would be ideal.

Burnham Park has been one of the staple attractions that locals and tourists head to in Baguio City. It is an urban park with vast gardens and picnic and bicycle areas. Moreover, it is centrally located and can be reached by walking from the city center. If you want to stay active, you can also jog around and join Zumba classes here. Other places within the park include Burnham Lake, where you can rent different kinds of boats, and Melvin Jones Grandstand, where you can play football or watch seasonal events. Alternatively, visit Baguio Museum to learn more about the Cordillera Administrative Region. Afterward, you can indulge in a hot taho or other street foods while sitting on the bench and people-watching.

Bell House offers a tranquil ambiance, perfect for those who want to unwind after a long day. It opened to the public in 1991 when it was handed over to the government. Aside from the colonial house, the area boasts an amphitheater with a garden and surrounding green spaces and is an ideal venue for photoshoots and wedding receptions. Additionally, since it’s within Camp John Hay, admission to this house allows you to visit the Cemetery of Negativism, which has gravestones for negative thoughts and emotions. Another side trip is the rainforest-like restaurant called Choco-late de Batirol, where you can enjoy a cup of traditional chocolate drink and indulge in hearty meals.

Ka Lui boasts traditional Filipino architecture, a collection of artworks, and excellent food. Although it closed for two years due to the pandemic, locals and tourists encouraged its owner to reopen the restaurant. Once you enter this place, you are requested to leave your footwear in a designated area and enjoy the polished wood flooring barefoot, making your stay a unique experience.
You can even roam around and be in awe of the several paintings, wooden sculptures, and native décor. Aside from its homey ambiance, this place is surrounded by plants, including the beautiful Birds of Paradise. The restaurant’s specialty includes seafood meals in generous servings. To visit here, you need to book in advance since this place turns into a full house, especially during the summer.
