Greece has one of the longest histories of all countries in the world; people have continuously inhabited this land since 270000 BC. But once you’re there, it’s easy to see why no one wants to leave. Its landscapes of glittering oceans, cathedral-like caves, mountains, and forests naturally inspired the former Empire’s myths and epics. Discover the beauty of Greek islands with a stay in some beautiful vacation rentals and get lost in the romance of time-worn theatre venues, centuries-old streets, and honey cheese pies. Here are some of the most attractive and charming HomeAway vacation rentals from across islands, towns, and cities for your next Greek holiday:

Santorini is an island with perfect, white cliffside towns that have been immortalized in paintings all around the world. This villa was built in a style that is a prime example of Cycladic architecture.

The villa is one of those perfect cliffside houses on the outside, yet modern and minimalistic inside, especially considering its 17th-century origins. Entering this place feels like stepping into another dimension, with its vaulted ceilings and ethereal sea-blue aura. The villa is decorated with tiles and designs of the highest artistic quality, many of them handmade by artisans using traditional methods. Within one of the bedrooms, there is a large jetted tub fitted with mosaic glass tiles. The eclectic mix of designs reflect the traditional architectural beauty of the region. But, of course, modern conveniences abound in this villa too; there’s a 3D television with glasses and Wi-Fi.

Don’t miss the interesting experience of living like a rich epicurean of old while still having the fun and convenience of modern inventions.

4. Historical house in Syros (from USD 326)

Here’s one for history buffs! Ermoupolis is the main trading port of Syros, another island in the Cyclades. It used to be Greece’s commercial and industrial centre, but had declined by the late 19th century. Today, its economy is picking up greatly because of its progress in the service industry.

This is unsurprising though, as it has quite a few lovely, stays including this recommendation. This property was built in a 19th-century neoclassical style, and it’s located right in the heart of Ermoupolis. The furnishings are mostly antique. Pieces are either inherited or carefully handpicked, so be careful while handling things! The distressed textures and old-school intricate details add to the historical-vintage vibe it has going on. This HomeAway is all sorts of romantic and homely; look at those floral lamps and motifs on the ceiling! It’s as though they’ve leapt right out of an Austen novel. The checkerboard floors and interesting colour combinations might strongly remind you of Alice in Wonderland.

Villa Maria is a beautifully restored villa whose owners take very good care of… the whole decor that takes you back to another time period. The space it covers is large and comfortable, with three bathrooms and several bedrooms, while also providing the traveller with all the necessities he/she needs… Angeliki A.
Because it is central and on a hill, the terrace is the perfect place to get a panoramic view of the town, port, and sea.

If you think that this charming, historical house is the one for you, don’t miss out and get it booked!

5. Charming rustic cottage in Crete (from USD 173)

Crete, Greece’s largest island, is a foodie’s paradise. It has a rich ranges of cheeses, fried snails, and a variety of Cretan brandy. It’s a region that holds tightly onto its traditions, more so than mainland Greece. So where better to experience Crete than at this rustic rental, Kolokitha cottage? And how better to experience good food than when dining al fresco? Enjoy the fresh delicacies you bring back from local markets and grocers on the private sea terrace. Inside, the cottages are well kept and decorated. They have a sea-view window and a quaint nautical theme.

These studio cottages are right on the beach of Plaka. It had amazing beach views and only takes less than 15 steps to be on the water. It has the BEST location in Plaka and Elounda. The unit we stayed was very clean, had welcome necessities like bottled water, coffee, juice, beer and a few munchies. The location definitely requires a rental car, as it is about 1 hour away from Heraklion, but well worth the drive and the local atmosphere of Plaka and Elounda. All restaurants and shops are walking distance. I would definitely recommend this lovely cottage to anyone visiting Crete. GC
This place is also convenient, and there’s a friendly little fishing village nearby, so if you need any help or want to stop by to find more about the best eats in town, help is just a rental-car drive away.
