To prepare, I walked short distances (2–3 miles) a few days a week and longer distances (starting at 5 miles and increasing to 14 miles) on weekends. If you live in a flat area like I do, consider adding Stairmaster workouts to simulate the hills and stairs along the trail. This will make the uphill and downhill portions more manageable.
You’ll also need blister supplies (bandages, creams), snacks, water, and clothing for varying weather conditions. I also brought collapsible stools, which were useful for taking breaks without sitting on muddy or animal-dotted ground. Packing everything you might need is essential because there are long stretches without shops or facilities.
